Bot Builders: 6 lessons we’ve learnt, so you don’t have to!

Lesson no. 1: Bigger isn’t always better!

Implement multiple, single use bots, so that you can train them one at a time.

Start small with each one by training on the simplest use case and increasing the difficulty.

Lesson no. 2: The NLP system is NOT the bot

The NLP stack is just one part of the bot. One very important part!

NLP is not easy, but the hardest part is linking the data collected by the bot with an actual business use case to give it meaning.

Lesson no. 3: Just because you can build it, doesn’t mean you should.

Building a bot is more accessible than building an app, this also means that there is also a sea of ‘bad’ bots out there.

We see the messaging revolution as a opportunity for businesses to build real customer engagement through messaging.

Lesson no. 4: Human fail over isn’t cheating.

Bots are similar to new employees as they need training and need to learn gradually.

In the meantime, there should be an escalation process in case the bot gets stuck

Lesson no. 5: Iterate, Iterate, Iterate!

Start small, continually test your use case, your responses and iterate quickly to ensure the best user experience as possible.

Lesson no.6: One bot, many channels.

Publish the same bot across different channels so that you can maximise engagement and test out which channel is the most

effective for your use case and your audience.
