December 9th at 6:00pm we will be having volunteer
orientation and 4-H members will build a meeting
toolbox. We have a couple of meeting rooms at the
Farmington Library so parents and leaders will have an
opportunity to go through the orientation, learn about
the Danish judging system and discus the new
direction of 4-H. Members will make a “toolbox” for
club meetings which will include club officer
resources, parliamentary procedure review and a look
at what makes a successful club meeting.
We are asking that you RSVP by December 4th so we
can be sure to have enough supplies and snacks!
SFC Livestock Meeting

We want to thank everyone that came to Livestock
meeting on Oct. 8. It was great to see so many 4-H and
FFA members planning to participate in the county fair
next year. Remember, if you have thoughts, questions or

can be discussed at the meetings.

Livestock Weigh In Details
It will be that time before we know it and
there are a few changes this year.
Steer ~ January 25th ~ SFC Fairgrounds
Steer weigh ins will be the only on-sight weigh in this year. We ask that all steers come to weigh ins with a halter on and be safe to lead on and off the trailer. This year we will not be providing implants or vac-cinations for steers. If a 4-H or FFA member needs help administering vaccinations or an implant they can bring it to weigh ins and we will be happy to help. Thanks to C&S Farms we will still be able to deworm steers at weigh ins.
Swine ~ February 21st - March 1st
Swine weigh ins will be done as they have been in the past. 4-H and FFA members will have to request ear tags by January 31st and the tags will be available for pick up at the Livestock Seminar on February 7th or at the Extension office after the 7th. 4-H and FFA members need a picture of their swine project and themselves after the tag has been placed and email it to the Extension office with the weights between Feb-ruary 21- March 1.
Sheep & Goats ~ March 27th - April 5th
This year sheep and goat weigh ins will be done much like the swine weigh ins. Sheep and goats will use the scrapie tags as their ID tags for the fair so members will need to get them prior to weigh in dates. Scrapie tags can be ordered by calling 1-866-USDA-TAG. It could take up to 2 weeks to receive tags so plan ahead. Members can also contact their veterinarian to get scrapie tags. 4-H and FFA members will then need to get a picture of their sheep and goat projects and themselves and email it to the Extension office with the weights between March 27 and April 5.

“I pledge…my hands to larger service…” We should all be familiar with this phrase. Most likely, you hear it each
month at your club/group meeting as it’s a part of the 4-H pledge that all members learn. 4-H members are
encouraged to develop and practice skills to become helpful or useful in their club/group, community, country,
and world. Community service projects are an opportunity for youth to develop a sense of pride and ownership
for the community in which they live. Additionally, community service allows youth to learn the value of giving
back to the community while working with adults and helping others at the same time.
Community service projects can be done by the entire county, a club or an individual. The Extension office has
resources that can help 4-Hers and clubs choose community service projects, plan a project and execute a plan.
Let the Extension office know what you’re doing so we can help and share your service projects!
Since 1999 St. Francois County Community Partnership has coordinated a county-wide effort to provide all the children of St. Francois County with a joyous holiday season. Last year over 1,500 children in St. Francois
County were given a much brighter season because of the donations and efforts from this community. Over the years it has been an incredible journey as friends and neighbors from every community have worked together to
serve low-income families. Many people have given generously to provide children with warm clothing, toys and gifts. More importantly, this spirit of giving has provided HOPE. Hope that tomorrow will be better. Hope that
our children’s lives will be rich and rewarding.

Feb. 17 - 19, 2020 - Jefferson City, Mo. Legislative Academy is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for 4-H teens to be ambassadors for Missouri 4-H at the heart of Missouri state government in Jefferson City. Youth delegates from across the state are selected by 4-H to meet with executive, legislative, and judicial state government leaders. Highlights also include shadowing state legislators, and meeting with commodity groups, state agencies, and major supporters of the 4-H program. The Academy provides teens with opportunities to share their 4-H experiences and success stories, while gaining leadership and citizenship skills for careers in public service, law, journalism, public relations, lobbying, and related fields.
