Whether it’s a cramped,450-square-foot studio or ateeny nook-turned-home of-fice, it just got a little easier toplay up every inch when itcomes to furnishings.

Resource Furniture, a new1,800-square-foot emporium inSan Francisco, offers a long listof multifunctional, double-duty items for small spaces.

Founded 15 years ago byRon Barth and Steve Spett, thecompany has stores in LosAngeles, New York, Toronto,Mexico City and Calgary, Al-berta. “Due to the rapidlyevolving housing market andastonishing demand for spacein the region, opening a show-room in San Francisco was thenext logical step,” says compa-ny president Barth. “The BayArea is filled with people whoreally understand the conceptof living smarter.”

In the clean-lined space, examples of these multipur-pose pieces include the Tangosofa available with variousconfigurations (three cushions, four cushions, or sectional andsliding seats for lounging); theCristallo coffee table that canbe converted into a diningtable; and modern wall bedsystems by Italian manufac-turer Clei with high-techmechanisms.

Other finishing touchesinclude handwoven area rugsmade in Denmark; and wallpa-per that Norwegian designerTom Haga based on photo-graphs of concrete and raw

cinder block in locationsthroughout Norway. The prod-uct is intended to mimic thereal thing.

The company also offersinterior design services.

“We provide a holistic ap-proach to creating smallerfootprints by not only offeringmultifunctional furniture, butalso by space planning and
