EditingBy Katie Laud

Whilst editing, me and my group decided it would be effective to add in the micro element of sound effects. As you will be able to hear in our opening sequence we added in the sound effect of police car sirens which help create the dangerous, scary atmosphere we are trying to portray to our audience. It also helps to get a sense of location. We also added in a sound clip of a police operator to create the idea that they young girl (Katie) has phoned the police after finding (what we know as) her dead friend. We then added in dialogue of the character speaking over the top of multiple shots which able the audience to get a sense of what is happening. As you will be able to see from our opening sequence we have tried to match the shots perfectly with the soundtrack playing in the background. This was very time consuming but we as a group believe this is very effective as it allows the opening sequence to flow more fluently which engages the audience to watch further.

Editing – sound

• Within our opening sequence, I and my group thought it would be effective to add blur to one of our shots.

As you will be able to see from our opening sequence, we used blur on the first shot the audience see. We have done this to create a eerie tone, it gets rid of the idea that the lake we see on the screen is peaceful – the focus is taken away from this peaceful place giving connotations that something bad may be about to occur.

Editing – Blur

• Within our opening sequence we used cross fades. Cross fades are when two shots fade over each other, as one fades in another fades out. This adds more depth to what is shown on screen, it able the transaction from shot to shot to be more smooth and adds fluency to what is on screen – it engages the audience and entices them to watch further on. We have used this in the final moments of our opening and these shots match each other perfectly which help tell the story we are trying to portray to the audience.

Editing – Cross Fades

• During the editing process, we found that some of our shots were slightly to dark, so it resulted in us having to alter them. In certain shots we had to make the colours more exaggerated in order for the main character to stand out more on the incredibly dark background. • We also manipulated the shadows by making

them bolder on the dark background which can be seen when the serial killer is looking at the map on the wall. This has helped add to the suspicious, dark tone of our opening sequence and has helped portray our genre to the audience.

Editing – Brightness
