Word From Vice President of Programming: Nate Sullivan

My position at VP ofProgramming has keptme busy and entertainedfor the past trimester, ashave my ideas for thistrimester. Last trimester,we hosted our first ever

SigEp Diamonds pag-eant. It involved having agirl from each sorority tocompete against eachother in a beauty pag-eant. The winner re-ceived a $500 scholar-ship for her academicsand future expenses hereat Northwest MissouriState University. We

sold tickets to the eventand raised over $600, inwhich we donated to theBig Brothers, Big Sistersorganization. Also, last

trimester we sold sun-glasses and wristbandsfor our end of the yearevent, TGIO. Weraised over $500 and we plan to donate that mon-ey to Tomarken Smith’s

family. Formal washosted at the Lake ofthe Ozarks in the springand it was an entertain-ing event.

I plan to goabove and beyond thistrimester. The first goalis to host a philanthropyevent with another so-rority. We have been

trying to do this for along time now and thisis the semester I plan tohave our philanthropychair really put forth the

effort to get this accom- plished. We will also be do-ing our annual Teeter -Totterevent during the week ofhomecoming. Our commu-nity service has slacked inthe past, but this semester

we plan to do at least 1-2

events each month, includ-ing doing a community ser-vice event with the volley- ball team. This year we aredoing homecoming floatand skit with the ladies ofSigma Kappa. We are ex- pecting to put forth a valianteffort and are shooting forfirst place in big float and

  In order to reducenoise complaints andmake our social eventssafer, we have imple-mented a new indoor policy. The new policy

involves a 21 year oldexecutive board mem- ber standing at the doormarking girls as theycome in, as well as an-

other member workingindoor at the bottom ofthe stairs opening andclosing the bottomdoor as girls enter. OurSPERM team (Sigma

Phi Epsilon Risk Man-agement) is used tomonitor the bar andoutdoor, while I as therisk management chair

monitor the indoor.The incoming fresh-men are required to dotwo DD’s their firsttrimester in the chapterand all members are

required to do a DDuntil their chapter rollis high enough towhere they don’t haveto do one.

Vice President of Finance: Ryan BehrensThis trimester, we have

made some improvements to thehouse. Aside from work doneover the summer, we replacedthe carpet in 5 rooms. We alsoreplaced the carpet on the stair-case in the foyer.

Improvements were alsomade in the commons of the up-stairs wings. A couch was pur-

chased for each wing, and TV’swere mounted and installed to awall in each wing to create alarger environment for brothersto enjoy each other's company. 

 New members have beenregistered with nationals, and alldues have either been collected,or are being collected via install-ments.

Vice President of Communications: Zach HarrisMy name is Zach Har-

ris, and I am currentlythe VP of Communica-tions. This year I havemade a couple improve-ments to my position. Sofar this year, we have put

up all the names of mem- bers living in the houseon the mail boxes in thekitchen. That way allmail that comes to thehouse gets put in individ-

uals’ mailboxes, ratherthan just put on the stairsin the foyer. I have alsospent some time workingon transitioning us fromthe old Chapterspot tothe new format. There

are a lot of new functionsthat I plan on learningand using for the chapter.One more thing I plan ondoing is putting up thePiss Post each week.

This will have all upcom-ing events and infor-mation members need toknow in each bathroom.With elections comingup for a new executive board, I will pass on all

the new and previous re-sponsibilities of VP ofCommunications to who-ever takes over the posi-tion.

From the Vice President of Recruitment-Lucas Clark

This past spring, we held ourfirst ever SigEp Diamonds Pageant.We raised over $600 as members ofthe Northwest community came andsaw a member of each of the five so-rorities on campus showcase their tal-ents. Chloe Fey, the representativefrom Alpha Sigma Alpha, was votedthe best overall by the judges. The pro-ceeds went to the Big Brothers, BigSisters Foundation.

We also sold TGIO wristbandsand sunglasses the week before oursocial function, in order to raise mon-ey for the Tomarken Smith MemorialFund. We raised almost $500 thisweek alone.

This fall, we are in the works

of planning an event with another so-rority or organization on campus. Wewould like to continue to raise moneyfor YouthAids, our top philanthropy.Also, Teeter Totter will be held duringhomecoming week, as brothers willman it for 105 consecutive hours.

This trimester, the number ofmales going Greek were low compared tothe past few years. As a chapter, we tookthis into consideration and made sure toget our name out to as many guys as pos-

sible. With our past achievements of hav-ing the highest GPA on campus, beingthe largest fraternity and receiving "BestBrotherhood Award" from the women ofPhi Mu as part of our best selling points,we capitalized on recruiting the largestrush class on campus. We stayed veryselective in the process, and turned awaymany other potential new members. 

We named 7 Balanced ManScholarship finalists, and 3 of them arenew members this trimester. We have

selected a Balanced Man Scholarshipwinner in Alex Vanfossen, who is one ofour new members. This trimester, wetook a lot into consideration on creating agreat future for the chapter. On behalf ofthe chapter I believe we have successful-ly selected a great class to lead the chap-ter in the future.

Homecoming Information: Stephen Reyes, Homecoming co-Chair

The theme for Homecoming this year is “Rollingout the 90’s.” Each theme has to do with something involv-ing the years 1990-1999. This year, Sigma Phi Epsilon will be partaking in six homecoming events which include: float,skit, costume clowns, paper mache clowns, banner, and

canned art. We also have a walk -in entry in the parade,

which will be our traditional Teeter Totter.For float this year, we are paired up with the ladies

of Sigma Kappa, and our theme is Dexter’s Laboratory. Forskit we are also paired up with Sigma Kappa, and our themeis the television show ‘All That’. For costume clowns, wehave selected the theme to be Toy Story. For paper macheclowns we have chosen the theme to be The Simpsons. Ourtheme for banner will be Toy Story. For canned art ourtheme is Gameboy Color.

The way our walk -in entry for the Teeter Totterwill work is that our Teeter Totter will be in the parade, it’s just not in a particular category. This year Sigma Phi Epsi-

lon is doing many of the homecoming categories in hopeson helping bring back Fraternity of the Year.

This year, we are planning to have an Alumni Meet and Greet atthe SigEp House on October 26. This is Saturday of Homecoming Week,and we would like to invite you to the Homecoming Parade, which startsat 9 A.M. This will allow you to see the work we have put in for thisyear’s Homecoming festivities. After the parade, we welcome you and

your families to the Meet and Greet, where you will have the opportunityto meet with undergraduates, as well as reunite with brothers in your re-spective classes. There will also be a tailgate at the House, and at about1:30 we will begin to round people up and head to the football game,which starts at 2 P.M.
