GeneralPipe installation must be carried out in accordance withcurrent norms and directives. F1255PC can operate witha return temperature of up to 58 °C and an outgoingtemperature from the heat pump of 70 (65 °C with onlythe compressor).
F1255PC is not equipped with external shut off valves;these must be installed to facilitate any future servicing.
CautionEnsure that incoming water is clean. Whenusing a private well, it may be necessary tosupplement with an extra water filter.
CautionAny high points in the climate system, mustbe equipped with air vents.
NOTEThe pipe systems need to be flushed out be-fore the heat pump is connected so debriscannot damage component parts.
NOTEWater may drip from the safety valve’s over-flow pipe. The entire length of the overflowwater pipe must be routed to a suitable drainand be inclined to prevent water pockets, andmust also be frost-proof. The overflow pipemust be at least the same size as the safetyvalve. The overflow pipe must be visible andits mouth must be open and not located closeto electrical components.
NOTEThe climate system must be adjusted for bothheating and cooling operation.

SYMBOL KEY
SYSTEM DIAGRAMF1255PC consists of a heat pump, water heater, elec-trical module, circulation pumps and a control system.F1255PC is connected to the brine and heating mediumcircuits.
In the heat pump evaporator, the brine (water mixedwith anti-freeze, glycol or ethanol) releases its energyto the refrigerant, which is vaporised in order to becompressed in the compressor. The refrigerant, of whichthe temperature has now been raised, is passed to thecondenser where it gives off its energy to the heatingmedium circuit and, if necessary, to the water heater. If there is a greater need for heating/hot water than thecompressor can provide there is an integrated immersionheater.
The brine can also be circulated via a mixing valve to aheat exchanger. There the brine cools the heating sys-tem's water so that comfort cooling can be maintainedduring the hotter periods of the year.

Brine sideCOLLECTOR
CautionThe length of the collector hose varies depend-ing on the rock/soil conditions, climate zoneand on the climate system (radiators or under-floor heating) and the heating requirement ofthe building Each installation must be sized in-dividually.
Max. length per coil for the collector should not exceed400 m.
In those cases where it is necessary to have severalcollectors, these should be connected in parallel withthe possibility for adjusting the flow of the relevant coil.
For surface soil heat, the hose should be buried at adepth determined by local conditions and the distancebetween the hoses should be at least 1 metre.
For several bore holes, the distance between the holesmust be determined according to local conditions.
Ensure the collector hose rises constantly towards theheat pump to avoid air pockets. If this is not possible, airvents should be used.
Because the temperature of the brine system can fallbelow 0 °C, it must be protected against freezing downto -15 °C. When making the volume calculation, use 1litres of ready mixed brine per metre of collector hose(applies when using PEM-hose 40x2.4 PN 6.3) as a guidevalue.
SIDE CONNECTIONIt is possible to angle the brine connections, for connec-tion to the side instead of top connection.
To angle out a connection:
1. Disconnect the pipe at the top connection.
2. Angle the pipe in the desired direction.
3. If necessary, cut the pipe to the desired length.
CONNECTING THE BRINE SIDE• Insulate all indoor brine pipes against condensation.
• The level vessel must be installed as the highest pointin the brine system on the incoming pipe before thebrine pump (Alt. 1).
If the level vessel cannot be placed at the highestpoint, an expansion vessel must be used (Alt. 2).
NOTENote that condensation may drip from the levelvessel. Position the vessel so that this doesnot harm other equipment.
• Details of the antifreeze used must be shown on thelevel vessel.
• Install the enclosed safety valve below the level vesselas illustrated.
• Install a shut off valve for outgoing brine as close tothe heat pump as possible.
• Fit the enclosed filterball on the incoming brine.
TIPIf filling connection KB25/KB32 is used, theenclosed filterball does not need to be fitted.
In the case of connection to an open groundwater sys-tem, an intermediate frost-protected circuit must beprovided, because of the risk of dirt and freezing in theevaporator. This requires an extra heat exchanger.

Heating medium sideCONNECTING THE CLIMATE SYSTEMA climate system is a system that regulates indoorcomfort with the help of the control system in F1255PCand for example radiators, underfloor heating/cooling,fan convectors etc.
• Install all necessary safety devices, shut-off valves (asclose to the heat pump as possible) and the enclosedfilterball.
NIBE F1255PCChapter 4 | Pipe connections16
• Fit safety valve on heating medium return as illus-trated. Recommended opening pressure is 0.25 MPa(2.5 bar). For information about max opening pressure, see technical specifications.
• When connecting to a system with thermostats on allradiators (or underfloor heating coils), either a bypassvalve must be fitted or some of the thermostats mustbe removed to ensure there is sufficient flow.
P
XL1
XL2
Cold and hot waterCONNECTING COLD AND HOT WATER• Fit shut-off valve, non-return valve and safety valve as
illustrated.
• The safety valve must have max. 1.0 MPa (10.0 bar)opening pressure, and be installed on the incomingdomestic water line as shown.
• A mixer valve must also be installed, if the factorysetting for hot water is changed. National regulationsmust be observed.
• The setting for hot water is made in menu 5.1.1 (page41).
XL3
XL4
Docking alternativesF1255PC can be connected in several different ways, some of which are shown below.
Further option information is available at nibe.eu and inthe respective assembly instructions for the accessoriesused. See page 60 for a list of the accessories that canbe used with F1255PC.
BUFFER VESSELIf the climate system volume is too small for the heatpump output, the radiator system can be supplementedwith a buffer vessel, for example NIBE UKV.
EXTRA HOT WATER HEATERSThe system should be supplemented with an extra waterheater, if a large bath tub or other significant consumerof hot water is installed.
Water heater with immersion heaterIf it is possible to use a water heater with an immersionheater, connect it as illustrated below.
GROUND WATER SYSTEMAn intermediate heat exchanger is used to protect theheat pump's exchanger from dirt. The water is releasedinto a buried filtration unit or a drilled well. See page 27for more information about connecting a ground waterpump.
If this docking alternative is used, "min. brine out" inmenu 5.1.7 "br pmp al set." must be changed to a suit-able value to prevent freezing of the heat exchanger.

3. Provides the option of fine-tuning the room temper-ature.
Install the sensor in a neutral position where the settemperature is required. A suitable location is on a freeinner wall in a hall approx. 1.5 m above the floor. It isimportant that the sensor is not obstructed from meas-uring the correct room temperature by being located, for example, in a recess, between shelves, behind acurtain, above or close to a heat source, in a draft froman external door or in direct sunlight. Closed radiatorthermostats can also cause problems.
The heat pump operates without the sensor, but if onewishes to read off the accommodation's indoor temper-ature in F1255PC's display, the sensor must be installed.Connect the room sensor to X6:3 and X6:4 on the inputboard (AA3).
If the sensor is to be used to change the room temper-ature in °C and/or to fine-tune the room temperature, the sensor must be activated in menu 1.9.4.
If the room sensor is used in a room with underfloorheating, it should only have an indicatory function, notcontrol of the room temperature.

Optional connectionsLOAD MONITOR
Integrated load monitorF1255PC is equipped with a simple form of integratedload monitor, which limits the power steps for theelectric additional heat by calculating whether futurepower steps can be connected to the relevant phasewithout exceeding the specified main fuse. If the currentwould exceed the specified main fuse, the power stepis not permitted. The size of the property’s main fuseis specified in menu 5.1.12.
Load monitor with current sensorWhen many power-consuming products are connectedin the property at the same time as the electric additionalheat is operating, there is a risk of the property’s mainfuses tripping. F1255PC is equipped with a load monitorwhich, with the aid of a current sensor, controls thepower steps for the electric additional heat by redistrib-uting the power between the different phases or bydisengaging the electric additional heat in event of anoverload in a phase. If the overload remains despite theelectric additional heat being disengaged, the com-pressor winds down. Reconnection occurs when theother current consumption drops.
CautionActivate phase detection in menu 5.1.12 forfull functionality, if current sensors are installed.
Connecting current sensors
A current sensor should be installed on each incomingphase conductor in to the distribution box to measurethe current. The distribution box is an appropriate install-ation point.
Connect the current sensors to a multi-core cable in anenclosure directly adjacent to the electrical distributionunit. The multi-core cable between the enclosure andF1255PC must have a cable area of at least 0.5 mm².
Connect the cable to the input board (AA3) on terminalblock X4:1-4 where X4:1 is the common terminal blockfor the three current sensors.

POST ADJUSTMENT AND VENTING
Pump adjustment, automatic operationBrine side
To set the correct flow in the brine system, the brinepump must run at the correct speed. F1255PC has abrine pump that is controlled automatically in standardmode. Certain functions and accessories may demandthat it be run manually, in which case the correct speedmust be set.
This automatic control occurs when the compressor isrunning and sets the speed of the brine pump so thatthe optimum temperature difference between the supplyand return lines is attained.
NIBE F1255PCChapter 6 | Commissioning and adjusting30
Heating medium side
To set the correct flow in the heating medium system, the heating medium pump must run at the correctspeed. F1255PC has a heating medium pump that canbe automatically controlled in standard mode. Certainfunctions and accessories may require it to run manuallyand the correct speed must then be set.
This automatic control occurs when the compressor isrunning and sets the speed of the heating mediumpump, for the relevant operating mode, so the optimumtemperature difference between the supply and returnlines is achieved. During heating operation, the set DOT(dimensioned outdoor temperature) and temperaturedifferential in menu 5.1.14 are used. If necessary, themaximum speed of the circulation pump can be limitedin menu 5.1.11.
Pump adjustment, manual operationBrine side
F1255PC has a brine pump that can be automaticallycontrolled. For manual operation: deactivate "auto" inmenu 5.1.9 and then set the speed according to thediagram below.
CautionWhen passive cooling is used, the brine pumpspeed must be set in menu 5.1.9.
Set the pump speed when the system has come intobalance (ideally 5 minutes after compressor start).
Adjust the flow so the temperature difference betweenbrine out (BT11) and brine in (BT10) is between 2 - 5 °C.Check these temperatures in menu 3.1 "service info"and adjust the brine pump’s (GP2) speed until the tem-perature difference is obtained. A large difference indic-ates a low brine flow and a small difference indicates ahigh brine flow.

Check the fluid level in the level vessel(CM2). If the fluid level has dropped, topup the system.
1. Close the valve under the vessel.
2. Disconnect the connection on top ofthe vessel.
3. Fill with brine until approx 2/3 of thevessel is full.
4. Reconnect the connector at the top ofthe vessel.
5. Open the valve under the vessel.
If the pressure in the system needs to be raised, this isdone by closing the valve on the outgoing main linewhen the brine pump (GP2) is in operation and the levelvessel (CM2) is open, so that liquid is drawn down fromthe vessel.
Expansion vessel
LEK
If a pressure expansion vessel (CM3) isused instead of a level vessel, the pressurelevel is checked with the pressure gauge(BP6). If the pressure drops, the systemshould be replenished.
Setting thecooling/heating curveIn the menus Curve, heating and Curve, cooling , youcan see the heating and cooling curves for your house. The purpose of the curves is to give an even indoortemperature, regardless of the outdoor temperature, and thereby energy-efficient operation. It is from thesecurves that F1255PC determines the temperature ofthe water to the climate system (the supply temperat-ure) and thus the indoor temperature.
CURVE COEFFICIENTThe slopes of the heating /cooling curves indicate howmany degrees the supply temperature is to be in-creased/reduced when the outdoor temperaturedrops/increases. A steeper slope means a higher supplytemperature for heating or a lower supply temperaturefor cooling at a certain outdoor temperature.

The optimum curve slope depends on the climate con-ditions in your location, whether the house has radiators, fan coils or underfloor heating and how well insulatedthe house is.
The heating/cooling curves are set when the heating/cool-ing system is installed, but may need adjusting later.Thereafter, the curves should not need further adjust-ment.
CURVE OFFSETAn offset of the curve means that the supply temperat-ure changes by the same amount for all the outdoortemperatures, e.g. a curve offset of +2 steps increasesthe supply temperature by 5 °C at all outdoor temperat-ures. A corresponding change to the cooling curve res-ults in a lowering of the supply temperature.

DRAINING THE HOT WATER HEATERThe siphon principle is used to empty the hot waterheater. This can be done either via the drain valve onthe incoming cold water pipe or by inserting a hose intothe cold water connection.
DRAINING THE CLIMATE SYSTEMIn order to carry out service on the climate system, itmay be easier to drain the system first. This can be donein different ways depending on what needs doing:
NOTEThere may be some hot water when drainingthe heating medium side/climate system. Thereis a risk of scalding.
Draining the heating medium side in thecooling moduleIf, for example, the heating medium pump requires re-placing or the cooling module requires servicing, drainthe heating medium side as follows:
1. Close the shut-off valves to heating medium side(QM31) and (QM32).
2. Connect a hose to the bleed valve (QM1) and openthe valve. Some liquid will run out.
3. Air must get into the system for the remaining liquidto run out. To let in air, slacken off the connectionslightly at the shut-off valve (QM32) that joins theheat pump with the cooling module.
When the heating medium side is empty, the requiredservice can be carried out and/or replacement of anycomponents carried out.
Draining the heating medium system in theheat pumpIf F1255PC requires servicing, drain the heating mediumside as follows:
1. Close the shut-off valves outside the heat pump forthe heating medium side (return and flow line).
2. Connect a hose to the bleed valve (QM1) and openthe valve. Some liquid will run out.
3. Air must get into the system for the remaining liquidto run out. To let in air, slacken off the connectionslightly at the shut-off valve that joins the heat pumpwith the cooling module (XL2).
When the heating medium side is empty, the requiredservice can be carried out.
Draining the entire climate systemIf the entire climate system requires draining, do this asfollows:
1. Connect a hose to the bleed valve (QM1) and openthe valve. Some liquid will run out.
2. Air must get into the system for the remaining liquidto run out. To allow air in, unscrew the bleed screwon the highest radiator in the house.
When the climate system is empty, the required servicecan be carried out.
EMPTYING THE BRINE SYSTEMIn order to service the brine system it may be easier todrain the system first. This can be done in different waysdepending on what needs doing:
Draining the brine system in the coolingmoduleIf, for example, the brine pump requires replacing or thecooling module requires servicing, drain the brine systemby:
1. Close the shut-off valves to brine system (QM33)and (QM34).
2. Connect a hose to the drain valve (QM2), place theother opening of the hose in a container and openthe valve. A small amount of brine will flow into thecontainer.
3. Air must get into the system in order for the remain-ing brine to run out. To let in air, slacken off theconnection slightly at the shut-off valve (QM33) thatjoins the heat pump with the cooling module.
When the brine system is empty, the required servicecan be carried out.
Draining the brine system in the heat pumpIf the heat pump requires servicing, drain the brine sys-tem by:
1. Close the shut-off valve outside the heat pump forthe brine system.
2. Connect a hose to the drain valve (QM2), place theother opening of the hose in a container and openthe valve. A small amount of brine will flow into thecontainer.
3. Air must get into the system for the remaining brineto run out. To let in air, slacken off the connectionslightly at the shut-off valve that joins the brine sidewith the heat pump at connection (XL7).
When the brine system is empty, the required servicecan be carried out.

alarm
In the event of an alarm, some kind of malfunction hasoccurred, which is indicated by the status lamp changingfrom green continuously to red continuously. In addition,an alarm bell appears in the information window.
ALARMIn the event of an alarm with a red status lamp a mal-function has occurred that the heat pump cannot remedyitself. In the display, by turning the control knob andpressing the OK button, you can see the type of alarmit is and reset it. You can also choose to set the heatpump to aid mode.
info / action Here you can read what the alarm meansand receive tips on what you can do to correct theproblem that caused the alarm.
reset alarm In many cases, it is sufficient to select “resetalarm” for the product to revert to normal operation. Ifa green light comes on after selecting “reset alarm”,the alarm has been remedied. If the red light is still on,and a menu called “alarm” is visible in the display, theproblem causing the alarm still remains.
aid mode “aid mode” is a type of emergency mode. This means that the heat pump produces heat and/orhot water even though there is some kind of problem. This could mean that the heat pump’s compressor isnot running. In this case, the immersion heater producesheat and/or hot water.
CautionTo select aid mode an alarm action must beselected in the menu 5.1.4.
CautionSelecting "aid mode” is not the same as cor-recting the problem that caused the alarm. Thestatus lamp will therefore continue to be red.
TroubleshootingIf the operational interference is not shown in the displaythe following tips can be used:
BASIC ACTIONSStart by checking the following items:
• The switch's (SF1) position.
