What is worship?

“Worship is the only thing we can give to God that He already doesn’t have…”

“Worship is God coming to us (love, grace, law, truth, forgiveness, guidance, peace, etc.)… as we respond to God (faith, confession, gratitude, wonder, joy, celebration.)” “Worship: God is the object and the subject.”

worship: Old English; ‘worth’ ‘ship’; reverent honor paid to God; (verb, noun)

Westminster Confession (AD 1647): “The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”

Rick Warren: “The most common mistake Christians make in worship is seeking an experience rather than seeking God.”

Loving God with all of our strength. Physical worship...what we do…specific actions

Loving God with all of our mind.Intellectual worship…what we think...clear understanding

Loving God with all of our soul.Emotional worship…what we feel…powerful emotions depth of faith.

Loving God with all of our heart.Volitional worship…what we choose…concrete decisions

Call for decisions for accepting Christ, serving the poor and needy, advocating for missions and social justice

Heartfelt Worship

Physical…What can I bring to God in worship?In what ways is God trying to come to

me through worship?

Intellectual…Is there a new understanding in God

Word that I can receive?How can I communicate Biblical truth

to others?

Heartfelt Worship

Emotional…What in my life needs to be healed,

forgiven, cleansed, released, renewed?

How can I be more loving, grace-filled, joyful, thankful, humble?

Volitional…What is God asking me to do or be?How can I best respond to God’s call

on my life?
