In Situ – Presence of malignant cells within the cell group from which they arose. Latin for “in the place”

Localized – invasive cancer confined to the organ of origin

Regional – direct extension to adjacent organs or tissues or involvement in the regional lymph nodes.

Distant – continuation to non-adjacent organs, involvement of the distant lymph nodes
