Traditional Radiology

In the early days of Radiology,

everything happened under

one roof. The patient, the

General Practitioner, and the

Radiologist were in the same

building.

Teleradiology

In the late 1990’s, some

Radiologists began

experimenting with accessing

images remotely.

The original use case was

emergency interpretations in

the middle of the night from

the radiologist’s home.

Teleradiology

In the early 2000’s, the

practice of remote

interpretation blossomed into

the “teleradiology” industry.

Companies were founded on

this concept.

One “teleradiology”

organization can serve many

(100+) hospitals.

How does it work?

The process is relatively simple.

First, the hospital sends the images using “DICOM”,

which is the language that Radiology scanners use.

How does it work?

The Radiologist receives the images, reviews them,

and then creates a report.

The report is sent back to the hospital using either

fax, DICOM, or HL7 (technology to directly connect

with the EHR).

How does it work?

As groups work more closely together, the

integration can become more sophisticated.

For example, the groups can send additional details

over fax, HL7, or phone calls.

How does it work?

A complete integration can become complex.

Using a system like Clariso can simplify the integration

and reduce costs for both sides.

Clariso manages all connectivity including DICOM, HL7,

and faxes. It also provides secure email and SMS.

Clariso: Ordering

Clariso provides all CPOE

(computerized physician order

entry) features.

This makes it easy for patients

and physicians to order and

schedule exams.

Radiology CPOE is required for

Meaningful Use Stage 2.
