=DeoPersaudwasborninGuyanaandgrewupinGeorgetown.HemovedtotheUKandworkedintheNHS(1966-1975),andwentontobecomeatechnicalspecialistinadultandpaediatriccardiology.Hedevelopedakeeninterestindocumentaryphotographyviewingitaswitnesstoculturalandsocialpractice,aswellasatoolforsocio-politicalchange. It was through photography that he sought to expose the brutal working conditions of cane cutters inGuyana’s sugar industry and expose the failure of successive governments to address the need for change. Deo’sphotographsandwritingsonthesugarindustrywillbepresentedbyDrMichelleYaaAsantewa.MichaelC.LamisaGuyanese-bornandbasedphotographer.HisinfluencesincludetheworkofAnselAdams,HiroshiSugimoto and Darren Moore. He sees photography as a means of artistic expression, a recording, but also aninterpretation of what is, not what isn’t, included in the frame. His locally and internationally exhibited worksinclude: CoastalWanderings (2012), Guyana Visual Arts Competition & Exhibition (2012, 2014 & 2017), VISIONS2016 (Guyana), Un| FixedHomeland - 2016 (NJ, USA), and Liminal Space - 2017 (NY, USA). Guyana SPEAKSwillpresentavideothathasbeenspeciallyproducedbyMichaelforthisprogramme.Jamain Gordon is a Guyanese-born, London-based Fashion and Portraiture photographer. He received his firstcamera(aCanon1000f)attheageoftenandquicklydevelopedaninterestinphotographyasartandsocio-culturaldocumentary. Jamain, runner-up in theundergraduatesingle imagecategory for2017BreakthroughAwardswithBJP,wasinspiredtoreturntoGuyanawhilestudyingatFarnhamUniversityfortheCreativeArts.Thistripresultedintheproductionofthebook,OnePeople,OneNation,OneDestiny:aphotographicmemoireofthepeoplehemetandtowhomhefeltcloselyconnected.Jamain’swillsharehisthoughtsonthistripandthemotivationsbehindhiswork.Theprogrammewillincludeashortvideoshowcasinglesswell-knownregionsofGuyana,andpoetryreadingsbyIngridDover-Vidalfromherdebutcollectionofpoetry,MakeitShine.
