What Are Mummies?

Mummies are humans and animals whose skin and organs have been preserved for a long time in chemicals like salt. All the bacteria's and germs eat away at the soft tissue, leaving only bones and a really thin layer of moist skin behind.

Why did the Egyptians mummify the dead?

The ancient Egyptians believed that when someone died, their soul left their body. The soul would then return and be reunited with the body after it was buried.

Mummified Animals

The ancient Egyptians would mummify animals after the death of its owner so the animal would join him/her. The types of animals that they mummified was bulls, cats, dogs, fish, crocodiles, rodents, monkeys, jackal, snakes and even insects.
