Telehealth Delivery Project

The Project Aim The aim of the project is to “enhance Aboriginal people’s access to specialist through the provision of support for quality Telehealth facilitated patient consultations using videoconferencing facilities within Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) across Australia.”

The Project Outcomes and Deliverables Help eligible Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Services (ACCHS) develop telehealth plans for their respective use of telehealth services, addressing in particular their need to access relevant training, capacity to meet infrastructure cost and conduct realistic business case analyses of the coast and advantages or increased use of telehealth services;

The Project Outcomes and Deliverables Provide eligible ACCHS with limited, one off capital grants to assist them to meet establishment costs of any infrastructure and associated costs to enable telehealth services at their location(s) and;

The Project Outcomes and Deliverables Ensure a strong evaluation focus in helping build a sector-wide picture of telehealth in the ACCHS sector.

Survey Noteworthy Findings • 70 % of services are not engaged in Telehealth.

• For 63% of those not engaged, the reasons were:

lack of suitable equipment or internet, insufficient knowledge on all aspects of Telehealth and lack of staff training.

• 75% of ACCHS were not aware of the specific Medicare numbers and the incentives available. This included some services that were actually engaging in Telehealth.
