Preface
Preface This guide introduces SmartPlant® Reference Data procedures for SmartPlant Materials, powered by MARIAN®. It includes a workflow example of how to set up prerequisites for commodity codes, how to generate commodity codes, and how to generate idents.
SmartPlant Reference Data provides materials libraries at the corporate and project levels, and enables materials revision and change management. The library enables corporate (project-independent) material data standardization, especially of bulk material. Data can be organized and reused according to international (ANSI, ISO, and DIN) or corporate standards.
Notes
• The following name changes are taking effect in this version of the software: "MARIAN" is changing to "SmartPlant Materials" and "MLCL" is changing to "SmartPlant Reference Data".
• Not all graphics show the Log On To SmartPlant® Reference Data / Materials with the tree view. Some graphics show MLCL or Standardization or previous version numbers.

Logging on and Menus Overview Logging Onto SmartPlant® Materials
Make your selections on the Log On screen, and click OK.
The Main menu displays.
The database administrator will give you a user name, password, and database name You decide if youwant to work in a product group or on a project

Role assigned to your user name (The role determines which screens you can access and work with).

Logging on and Menus Overview
SmartPlant Materials Main Menu Tree view includes Administrative and SmartPlant Reference Data input screens.
The Main menu gives users access to all features and screens for their work. It includes commands, a tree view of modules, guided tours, user menus, and session information.
SmartPlant Materials screens are task-oriented:
• Administration screens start with the letter A.
• Standardization screens start with the letter S.
• Report screens include the letter R in the third position of the screen name.

• Not all graphics show the Log On To SmartPlant® Reference Data / Materials screen with the tree view.

Most Important Toolbar Commands
Command Definition Save Saves a record. Save, Next Record Saves a record and moves to the next record. Save Screen to File Saves screen contents in an ASCII file. Edit with Excel or ASCII editor. Enter Query Enters a query to retrieve a specific record from the database. (Yellow) Run Query Executes a query. (The record displays on the screen.) New Record Enters a new record. (SmartPlant Materials will provide an empty field.) Delete Record Deletes a record. Previous Block Moves to the previous block. SmartPlant Materials screens are divided into logical
blocks, or areas. Next Block Moves to the next block, or area. LOV Displays a list of values (LOV) of the records available for the input field

SmartPlant Reference Data Workflow Overview
SmartPlant Reference Data defines all standard components so that:
• They are available at the start of a project
• New parts can be created as quickly and efficiently as possible
There are three steps to defining standard components:
Step 1: Commodity Code prerequisite screen information is set up
Step 2: Commodity Code is created
Step 3: Ident numbers are generated
Commodity Code Digits and Their Meaning Each part is encoded according to user-definable rules. The result is a commodity code.
Example: Pipe, CS smls ASTM A106-B , PE Commodity Code Commodity Code Text PCB100AAXXA Pipe, CS smls ASTM A106-B , PE
Each digit represents a specific attribute of a part, and it also generates a specific part of the description according to a user-definable rule.

Ident Digits and Their Meaning After you create commodity codes, you link them to a geometric table. On the basis of that link relationship, SmartPlant Materials idents are generated.

How Commodity Codes are Generated
How Commodity Codes are Generated This section describes Table-Detailed-based commodity codes.
After you have entered all basic data in the appropriate tables, generate commodity codes on the S.30.01 Commodity Code screen.
Select a Commodity Group First, select a commodity group, for example, Pipe, BW Fittings, Flanges, Bolts, Gaskets. This is the first classification level for all SmartPlant Materials parts.
Select a SmartPlant Materials Commodity Part Second, select a commodity part. This is the second classification level for all SmartPlant Materials parts. Examples: Seamless, 90° LR ELL, 45° LR ELL, Conc. Red, Tee.

Select Properties to Describe the Part After selecting the PP Commodity Group and the Pipe Commodity Part, select properties to describe the part. For this example, select the following properties:
• P_DSGN_STD = Q (ASTM D2467)
• P_END_TYPE = B (Beveled End)
• P_MATL = C3D (ASTM-A53-B)

Commodity Code Prerequisite Setup
A.50.01 Attributes
The A.50.01 Attributes screen defines all attributes required in SmartPlant Materials. Examples of attributes used for the definition of geometric tables include: NPS (nominal pipe size), OD (outside diameter), SCH (schedule), WT (wall thickness), weight, and surface.
A.50.02 Commodity Attribute Tables
Tables of the COMMATTR (common attribute) type.
These tables are used for the generation of commodity codes. Only the names of these tables are entered here.

S.20.01 Table Groups For all of the tables defined on A.50.02, enter a group in the Table Groups block.

Commodity Code Prerequisite Setup
S.10.01 Commodity Rules Commodity rules are user-defined rules for generating commodity codes.
In the first block, enter a name for the rule, for example, P_PIPE.
In the second block, assign tables to the rule. Tables are defined in A.50.02.
In the third block, the tables are arranged according to the desired commodity code structure. In the example above, the 8th and 9th digit will be used to represent P_MATL.

In the fourth block, define a company-specific layout for the commodity code text.
S.10.02 Commodity Groups
Next, define commodity groups, and assign the appropriate rule that was defined in the previous step.

S.10.03 Commodity Parts
These entries will be part of the total description.
Commodity parts are assigned on screen S.10.03 to the appropriate commodity groups.
Initially, commodity parts will inherit the same rule as the commodity group. However, it is possible to overwrite the rule at this point.

S.10.04 Object Parameter In SmartPlant Materials, an object parameter links commodity codes and their respective geometric values.
The object parameter determines which geometric values will be used for the generation of idents, and will therefore be part of the ordering description on requisitions and purchase orders.
On screen S.10.04, enter only the names for object parameters.
S.10.05 Object Parameter Detail
Important: Only attributes that have a checkmark ( ) in the Ident field are used to generate ident numbers.
On screen S.10.05, Object Parameter Detail, assign the appropriate attributes in the second block of the screen. At a minimum, enter all of the attributes required to purchase an item. For example, idents for pipe must be built with the nominal size and the schedule, and idents for bolts must include the size and the diameter.

On Window two of screen S.10.05, define part-specific layouts for geometric values.
S.10.06 Part Object Parameter

Use the S.10.06 Part Object Parameter screen to assign object parameters to parts.
After you finish setting up the prerequisite information for commodity codes, you are ready to use screen S.30.01, Commodity Codes to generate the codes.

S.30.01 Generating Commodity Codes
S.30.01 Generating Commodity Codes Before you begin working on this screen, you must complete all of the prerequisites for generating commodity codes. The prerequisites are explained in the Commodity Code Prerequisites section.
Select a Group (use the LOV button) and a Part.
You will see a placeholder in the Commodity Code field.
Select the object parameter in the Object field.
Save all entries, and click the Next Block button to go to the next block.

Commodity Attributes
Here (DETAILS tab page), you will find all relevant table names (defined on S.10.01). Place the cursor in the Group field, and select a group (defined on S.20.01). In a uniform manner, you select the available details (defined on S.20.02).
After having selected all table names,
groups and table details, save your selection.
Then click the Build one Commodity button.

There are three prerequisites for generating idents:
• Commodity codes (Explained in the previous sections)
• Geometric tables
• Commodity-Geometric Relations

Type 1: Tables for standardized values (Pre-defined Structure)

Enter the values in the second block.
Type 2: Tables for standardized dimensions
S.40.10 Standard Geometrics (User-definable application). Example: A table may contain all standard dimensions for weld neck flanges (by rating): for example, NPS, length, flange diameter, bolt circle, number of bolts, and so on.

You can use standard table values in geometric simulations. Geometric simulation allows users to copy columns from existing tables into a new table.

These tables are used for establishing commodity-geometric relationships, and subsequently for generating idents.

On this screen, define relationships between commodity codes and geometric tables for generating idents.
Geometric Rules
Name of the rule
Example: In the Geometric Rule Definition block, all commodity parts and all commodity codes in the PP Group Code are linked to the 35S_11 geometric.
However, since this could include commodity codes with any design standard, you can include a filter as shown next.

The P_DSGN_STD table and the NMTLC PFV table group were used to generate commodity codes for the PP group code. (See the commodity rules for PIPE on S.10.01.)
Click the Commodity Relation button.
The result is shown in the following graphic. Only commodity codes with the selected design standard are related, or linked, to the 35S_11 geometric.
