Social Issues

Without that connection I believe that this book would be just another fictional book and not get as much recognition as it does today.

This book balances social context and the story by giving the readers enough context to understand the situation and the setting of the story.

I think they are there to not only get some different points … but to do exactly what they did, get us feeling a little uneasy. This book is so much about tradition, and with people trying to get change he’s putting us in South Africa. We like so much the normal but maybe change, even if we don’t want it, leads us in the right direction…

It’s just getting a little annoying…

Hollywood

I believe that origin does matter. You need an actual connection to the role you are playing for an audience to believe the story being told.

I think that subconsciously I would relate more to the feeling and emotions being expressed by an American rather than a South African.

If I decided to see Cry, the Beloved Country based on the nationality of the actors, I would be quite dumb.

Using the best actors possible for a role is the most effective homage to the South African’s plight that would inspire most people.

More South Africans would see it if it starred a South African man, and more Americans if It starred an American man.

I would most likely see a movie that stars one of my favorite actors, American or not. … Limiting actors to roles only of their nationality would overall hurt the movie business.

We don’t need to make this a big deal, but rather be compassionate in why someone else thinks it’s a big deal.

I feel like no one should ever be upset about Morgan Freeman being in a movie.
