Spanish Tio in Primary School in Kowala,
Poland
At first we met Tio who is very
popular in Spain. Then we
decided to reconstruct this ritual
connected with Christmas in our
school. We began by founding a
wooden block then we attached to
him two legs, a nose, eyes and a
mouth. Next Tio was worn in red
hat and was covered with a
blanket.
During the whole week before
Christmas our students fed Tio.
They were giving him fruits,
sweets and sandwiches. It was
a diverse range of food
because we didn’t know what
Tio likes the most.
At Christmas Eve students
brought short sticks and they
used them to hit Tio. The
students were shouting: ,,Tio
give us presents and sweets”.
It turned out that Tio presented
all children with sweets. To say
thank you we were singing
carols and what’s more Tio has
become our class mascot.
