BACKGROUNDANDFOUNDATIONSFor the last two decades (1998), theMeeting of SouthAmericanArchaeological Theory(also known as TAAS) has continuously proposed spaces for dialogue and exchangebetween institutions, collective groups, local communities, academias; spaces thatunfortunatelyeachtimearelessvisibleinourcontinent.Inthisway, thechoiceofholdingtheTAAS in Ibarra (Ecuador)continues topromote itsoriginal spiritbyquestioning thehegemonicparadigmsframingarchaeologyandthestudyofthepast, intermsofresearchandsocialpractice, hencecontributingalternativewaystorethinkthedisciplinefromtheSouth. The IXMeetingof theTAAS (June4-8,2018) in Ibarrawillbe the first time it isheld inEcuador. With the knowledge acquired by TAAS, we expect to contribute elements totransform social dynamics and build alternatives applicable to a critical LatinAmericansocialtheory.Following this approach, wepropose twomain themesof theTAAS-Ibarra, emphasisingonlocalcommunitiesandsexualandgenderdiversities.Thesearealsocentralthemestoagrowing interest of strong consolidating alliances and coalitions between differentcommunities, entities, institutionsandsocialagentsofthenorthernEcuadorianhighlands. For this reason, the congress will take place in two physical spaces: the PontificiaUniversidadCatólicadelEcuador-IbarraandtheCentroCulturalElCuartelinIbarra.CALLFORPAPERSThis is anopen invitation topresentpanelproposals for theninthmeetingof theTAASthatwill takeplace in Ibarra,Ecuador,on June2018.As inpreviousversions, thepanelsconstitute an important space for reflection and creativity in terms of archaeological
