LocationThe Old Forge is situated in the heart of the attractive small
Cotswold village of Ewen, which lies about three miles south of
Cirencester and is close to the Gloucestershire / Wiltshire border.
This highly regarded village principally comprises period houses
and cottages as well as a very popular 16th Century pub, The Wild
Duck, which is currently being refurbished. The neighbouring
village of Kemble has a good pub, a Parish Church, a highly
regarded primary school, village shop and a doctor's surgery plus a
railway station with connecting and intercity trains to London
Paddington (80 minutes). The village itself is conveniently located
for both Cirencester and Tetbury, both of which provide an
excellent range of shopping, educational and recreational
facilities. The larger cultural and shopping centres of Cheltenham,
Swindon and Bath are all easily accessible. There are fantastic
recreational and sporting facilities in the area including a selection
of golf courses at Cirencester, Minchinhampton and Castle
Combe, water sports at the nearby Cotswold Water Park and plenty
of delightful walking and riding in the surrounding countryside
The PropertyThe Old Forge is a beautiful example of a Grade II listed Cotswold
stone, village house. In the same family ownership for over 40
years, the current owners split the house to accommodate multi-
generational living however this could be easily reversed as all
doors remain open. Both parts of the property have great living
and entertaining rooms, all of which have views over the gardens.
In total the property has six bedrooms and four bathrooms,
providing ample space for large families. Subject to planning and
listed building consent, The Old Forge could be reconfigured and
refurbished to return it to a large family home.
Garden and GroundsOutside, there is an attractive barn with planning permission to
convert into a one-bedroom annex 16/01332/FUL and a large barn
that is currently used for garaging and storage. The property is
accessed over a gravel drive area with plenty of parking. The
gardens are laid mainly to lawns with mature shrub beds and dry-
stone walls and a patio. The entire garden is enclosed by walling of
different heights with trees and climbers providing total privacy
from neighbours.
