The Contractor is to verify the location of the proposed luminaire pole footings.
All reinforcing steel within the sidewalk around the luminaire pole footings shall be cut and bent as necessary to avoid conflicting with the luminaire pole footings.

Specifications:
1. Design Specifications: AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, 2017 Edition
2. Construction Specifications: South Dakota Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges, 2015 Edition and Required Provisions, Supplemental Specificaitons, and Special Provisions as included in the Proposal.
Retaining Wall:
1. All concrete shall be Class M6 and conform to Section 462 of the Specifications.
2. All reinforcing steel shall conform to ASTM A615, Grade 60.
3. Use 2 inch clear cover on all reinforcing steel except as shown.
4. A % inch chamfer shall be provided on all exposed retaining wall edges.
5. The maximum expansion joint spacing shall be 90 feet and the maximum contraction joint spacing shall be 30 feet. The contraction and expansion joints shall be placed to match pavement or curb joints where possible.
6. The exposed retaining wall surfaces shall receive a rubbed finish in accordance with 460.3L of the Specifications. The exposed surface of the retaining wall footing, when used as a sidewalk, shall receive a broom finish.
7. All costs for furnishing and installing the preformed expansion joint filler and bituminous paint shall be incidental to the contract unit price per cubic yard for "Class M6 Concrete".
8. Structure Excavation, Retaining Wall: This quantity is equal to the volume of concrete below the top of the footing (sidewalk surface).
9. Backfill the excavated area within the backs/ope behind the wall with excavated onsite soils. Gypsum will not be allowed. Granular material behind the wall is not desired since it may provide a conduit for water to migrate under the footing and causing gypsum that is present at depth to dissolve creating a void.
Underdrain:
1. An underdrain system shall be installed behind the wall as shown and detailed on the General Drawings. The underdrain system shall consist of 4 inch diameter slotted corrugated polyethylene tubing installed behind the wall and 4 inch diameter corrugated polyethylene tubing from the end of the wall to the outlet located at 15+47. Care shall be taken near the ends of the wall to ensure positive drainage.
2. The polyethylene tubing shall conform to Section 990 of the Specifications.
3. All costs involved in furnishing and installing the 4 inch diameter slotted corrugated polyethylene tubing and 4 inch corrugated polyethylene tubing shall be included in the contract unit price per foot for •4• Underdrain Pipe.·
Foundation Preparation:
1. The Spearfish Formation consists of red sandy shale, wtih siltstone, and sandstone with interbedded gypsum and minor limestone. Textural classification typically is a clay-silt. Gypsum varies from thin stringers to massive depostis over 30 feet thick. Gypsum is considered a soft rock and may require extra effort to excavate. Excavations into the Spearfish Formation shall be constructed upon within a reasonable time period. If the excavation is left open to the elements, the formation will desiccate and lose bearing and frictional capacities.
2. Excavation limits into the backs/ope for retaining wall construction shall be kept to the minimum required. Construction activities shall be sequenced to minimize the amount of time the temporary backs/ope is left exposed. A Y;,:1 slope should remain globaly stable over short-term retaining wall construction activities. Runoff shall be directed away from the retaining wall location during construction and final grading shall address surface flow so water does not pond behind or above the wall.
3. Undercut the wall footing area to 6" below the bottom of the wall. The limits of the undercut shall extend from the front of the footing to 1' behind the back of the wall. Backfill the undercut with granular material meeting the requirements of aggregate base course in Section 882 of the Standard Specifications for Roads and Bridges, 2015 Edition. Compact the material according to Section 120.3 B.3.a. Footing Undercut will be paid for at the contract unit price per cubic yard. Payment will be full compensation for equipment, labor, tools and incidentals required for undercutting footing and for furnishing, placing, watering and compacting backfill material. The basis of payment will be for plans quantity.
