• a ‘will’ to succeed ….

Name: SMITH SusanClass: 8x/En1 14/15Current level: 6b Target: 7aStrengths: Susan is able to analyse writer's use of ideas, character, theme and setting. She is able to explain how meaning is conveyed through structure, form and language.Areas for improvement: Susan must develop her analysis further by probing the subtext and considering layers of meaning. She also needs to extend her analysis further by exploring connections and comparisons between texts. In addition, Susan must consider social, cultural and historical context and explore how this impacts reader response.

Why do we need aspiration?• Drives people to success

• Determination for success

• Helps you make the right choices – options, college courses, work experience, clubs

• Helps you follow the right paths and put effort in the right places

• Improve life chances

• Gives you direction

“You Choose”A book I read to my daughter – she has to make choices about a variety of topics:

• Where would you like to go?

• What kind of home would you choose?

• What food would you eat?

• What clothes would you wear?

Aspirations, hopes and dreams start at an early age.

We refine them as we get older and have more life experience and realise that they make not come true e.g. Being a princess, scoring the winning goal in the world cup final!!

What aspiration did these people have?

•Bullied at school for being small•In 2008 broke ankle and couldn’t compete in Beijing Olympic Games.•Overcame this, rebuild her career and now is Olympic champion in the heptathalon

Wanted every American person to have equal rights and opportunities.

No matter how many people believe or don’t believe in you, you must be the ultimate believer in yourself! So…. DREAM

But what will you do with your dreams?“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.”

I hope I pass this test.I’m determined to pass this test.

I’ll be happy if I don’t get any more formal warnings this term.

I’m going to make sure I don’t get any more formal warnings this term.

It won’t matter if I miss training a couple of times.

I can’t afford to miss training at all.

I do my homework most of the time.

I make sure my homework’s done right away.

I think my parents will be happy if I get ………..

I’m going to work to get as many commendations as possible.

Who are You?

How do you think and act?

Are you happy just to:

• hope for the best• do ‘alright’• get it right some or most of the time

We have high aspirations for you – are youraspirations high enough?

What are your goals for this year?

How about 3 years, 5 years, 10 years from now?

What do you need to do to make these dreams come true?

This week in tutor time, in your journal…Find the page that asks you about your targets… fill it in!Find the page that lists ‘Governors Awards’ and set out to complete at least two this half term.

In your own time, speak to your family and set goals for yourself….

And finally…

Don’t practice until you get it right… practice until you cant get it wrong!

Oh… and come to school every single day!

“All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.”
