A story about a girl named Serena Norbet trying to figure out her Grandmothers story.

TRANSCRIPT

Writing My StoryBy Kelly Moore

Serena Norbet was on her way to her Grandmothers house for the summer. She wasn’t very excited because her Grandmother was very forgetful and and she came from a small town with no other children her age.

#1

Serena hasn’t seen her Grandmother in over a year, and although her Grandmother can’t wait to see Serena, Serena still has her doubts that she will have any fun over the summer.

#2

“It’s so great to see you Serena!” says Serena’s Grandmother, “I can’t wait to spend the entire summer together!”

“Grandmother, where is the nearest library?” Serena asks. Serena loves to read and to her dismay, she didn’t bring enough books to last her more then a week.

“I believe there is one in the town,” says her Grandmother, but I haven’t been there in years due to my failing eyesight!”

#3

Serena walked all over town, but couldn’t seem to find the library. The town was so small, she couldn’t even find one person to help her.

#4

Disappointed, Serena decides to go back to her Grandmothers hoping that she will have more luck in finding some good books there.

“Perhaps my Grandmother might even have some good stories to tell me!” Serena thinks to herself.

#5

Back at the house, she finds that her Grandmother has some old books, but nothing of much interest to Serena. Most of them just cooking books.

“Grandmother, do you have any interesting stories about your life?” Serena asks out of curiousity.

“Oh, I’m sorry dear! I assure you nothing much happens around here!” Serena’s Grandmother tells her.

#6

“But Grandmother, who is this? Is this Grandpa?” Serena asks. “He looks like a much younger version of what I have seen in pictures with me! What is the story behind this?”

#7

“Hmm, I don’t remember where that picture was from. You know my memory is not what it used to be,” Serena’s Gandmother says.

“Oh well,” says a disappointed Serena, “Perhaps I can figure it out on my own.”

#8

That night, Serena couldn’t fall asleep. She always read a book before she went to bed, and in an unfamiliar place, there was no way she could possibly sleep.

“Perhaps I should look again for another book,” Serena thought.

#9

Serena found a stairwell that she had never noticed before that she thought might lead to the attic.

“Hopefully I will have better luck up there” Serena told herself quietly. “I just hope I don’t get lost!”

#10

Serena came across a small box of books that looked interesting. They appeared to be stories, but they looked really old.

#11

She came across a book that appeared to be a journal that had been written a long time ago. It was facinating, she couldn’t stop reading it!

#12

The story started off with a girl who had fallen in love with a boy over the summer...

#13

They spent every hour they could together, and everyone in their town knew they were made for each other.

#14

However, by late August the boy she fell in love with was sent overseas to fight in the war. Throught his time there they sent letters to one another, but in her journal she expressed her true fear that she might lose him.

#15

He would write to her that he was okay, but she could tell that he was not being entirely truthful. Yet she still kept the hope that he would come hope safely.

#16

After two years off fighting, he did eventually come home safely, and upon their reunion they were immediately engaged. And that is where the journal ended.

#17

Meanwhile, Serena’s Grandmother had been searching all over the house for Serena. When she saw her reading, she paused for a moment...

She recognized that book!

#18

“Serena!” Serena’s Grandmother shouted, “What are you doing up here?”

“Oh Grandmother,” Serena explained, “I was just looking for a book, and I came across this fantastic book!”

#19

“That was my journal from when I was young!” Serena’s Grandmother told Serena. “That is the story of me and your Grandfather!”

“What?!” Serena exclaimed, “But this was such a great story!”

“Well, perhaps with your help, you could help me remember more stories just like this one!” Serena’s Grandmother told her.

“I would love that!” Serena said.

And after that, Serena and her Grandmother gained a new undertanding for one another, and spent the rest of the summer togehter.
