NEW garden Art AreaCommercial Ave, between 2nd and 3rd streets
Separated from the rest of the booth artisans by the food court, this area consists of artwork for outdoor display. Work includes fountains, etched rock, forged and fabricated metal and whimsical pieces. With more room for display, it’s easier to get an image of how this artwork can fit in the great outdoors.

Arts at the Port Port of Anacortes Warehouse Transit Shed Event Center — 1st & Commercial – 10-5 Aug. 2-Aug. 5Festival Hours 10-6 Friday and Saturday & 10–5 Sunday
Arts at the Port, located at the north end of Anacortes on the waterfront, carries on the tradition of showcasing and selling Northwest fine art. This unique marine setting in the Port warehouse combines a view of the water and the sound of ebbing and flowing tides with art-work from some of the region’s premier artists. Arts at the Port consists of three distinct exhibits – “NEXT” Juried Open Exhibition, John L. Scott Focus Gallery and Youth Art Exhibit, coordinated by Anacortes Community & Youth Arts.

Festival is honoring
two individuals as
Volunteer(s) of the Year. They
are husband and wife team,
Terry and Lil Green. Lil’s ex-
pertise is in the area of hospi-

delivery for booth artisans,
serves as a docent at the Port
and assists with checkout.
Terry, who also served on the
Festival board for a number of
years, gravitates more toward
production by marking streets
for setup, making Festival re-

work of putting up and closing

APoTA – Bill MitchellThe Anacortes Arts Festival is pleased to honor art-
ist Bill Mitchell as the 2010 Anacortes Patron of the
Arts. One need only drive into Anacortes to see the
artistic influence of Bill Mitchell in the community. In 1984,
Bill installed the first of his murals depicting histori-
cal people and events significant to Anacortes.
As of May 1, the number stands at 125. A map
locating the murals is available at the Cham-
ber Visitor’s Center.
A native to Anacortes, Bill started out
as an underground cartoonist and lat-
er wrote a history column for the An-
acortes American. Today he spends
his time painting into the wee hours
and working with a crew of four on
his many projects. He plans to wrap
up the Anacortes Mural Project early
in 2011. Despite the challenge of
being confined to
a wheelchair (and
familiar motorized
cart), Bill considers
himself “a lucky
guy.” There is no
argument that his
grit, tenacity and
talent have made a
significant impact
on the arts in Ana-
cortes.
