Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Do you want to be part of group of people that get together to study, pray and enjoy each other’s company? That’s what Anchor Groups and Life Groups are all about! A number of people have asked me about how to get into a group. Here is the procedure, and it’s not complicated.

First, if you know someone who is in a group, tell them you want to visit. You don’t have to make a commitment to join the group. Just visit and see if you like it. If you don’t know which group to visit, take a look at the list of groups that is on the next page of this edition of the Anchor. The time and days that the groups meet is listed. Contact the leader, so that you may ask any questions. Some groups go on outings together, and things like that, so it is good to check. The Bible studies that are listed are very consistent, so you can just show up if you wish.

Fellowship, or “hanging out with other Christians” is part of the pattern listed in the book of Acts that characterized the early Christian Community. (Acts 2:41) I hope that you will become part of a Life Group or Anchor Group or Bible study. You will meet new people and be spiritually nourished. Those who have are glad that they did!

Annual Men’s RetreatDon’t miss our annual Men’s Retreat November 9-11 at Sacramento Camp and Conference Center The theme this year is Be A Man, and the speaker is Derek Packard. Come on Friday evening and leave Sunday morning. Every year is a life changing experience. You may register online or at the Welcome Center. The fee is $165 and scholarships are available.

Thanksgiving Eve ServicePlease join us for a traditional Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21st.

Thanksgiving Day OutreachThanksgiving Day from 7 am to 11:30 am, we will once again serve cocoa and donuts to those standing on the street by the Church. If you would like to help serve people who are here for the parade, please contact Kristie Cossel at [email protected]

Christmas TreeEach year after Thanksgiving, we put up a Christmas Tree in the Welcome Center with little cards on it that represent needy children in Ciudad Juarez and El Paso. Thank you for your help in making Christmas special for one of these children.

A New Deacon!Congratulations to Dr. Courtney Brown on her ordination to the diaconate last Saturday. For years, Courtney has been a leader in worship, the annual Women’s Retreat, outdoor education trips (for St. Clement’s School), youth ministry, discipleship, and prayer ministry.

Stewardship MonthI don’t think of Thanksgiving as just a day. Why not a month. Actually, it is an opportunity to make a habit of thanking our Triune God for everything we have, which carries through to every day of our lives.

We will have several sermons that explore different aspects of stewardship of our lives: time, talent and treasure.

This year, Stewardship Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent, December 2nd. We ask you all to prayerfully consider what your financial contribution to God, through St. Clement’s, will be for the next year.

Yours in our Lord Jesus,

The Rev. William Cox Cobb, D.Min.

Library“ As we enter the holiday season, come in and

check out your Parish Library! We have several resources for family evenings and Christian hospitality. We also have good

fiction and movies for these longer, chilly evenings, and wonderful children’s books for you to read to your little ones. Come in and check out a book! Also, we are in need of a

volunteer to help out on Sunday mornings, to greet people and help them find what they need.

No experience required - we will train you. The working conditions are the best!

Adair Margo

Jody looks forward to reminiscing about her friend, the late John Houser. A board

member of XII Travelers Memorial of the Southwest for over 20 years, it was her

privilege to photograph this Renaissance man as he and his son, Ethan, created three magnificent historical monuments for our city. Adair will share the qualities that set him apart, and how he was more closely

aligned with the sculptors of classical Greece than with most 20th and 21st century artists.

Monday November 19 in the Mayfield Room Communion with Fr. John Dixon 10:30 a.m. before the speakers.

Lunch theme:Old West Thanksgiving. Bring a friend!

Children’s Ministry“…and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” Genesis 12:2

I recently read the book “One Thousand Gifts” by Ann Voskamp; a book given to me quite randomly. After reading its pages, a purposeful revelation of GOD’s goodness began to awaken in my heart: He blesses me and I say, “Thank You”, which blesses Him, which blesses me…. In the same way, the author made a list of her thanksgivings I began to write and number the things I’m thankful for. It didn’t take long for me see the myriad of ways God blesses me every day. My heart has come alive with His love as I am becoming aware of His goodness to me all the time. Kid’s Connection has been talking a lot about “Stewardship” and “Blessings” throughout this year. During the course of this time Miss Sharon has led the kids in making a blessing chain. The kids have shared so many blessings the chain now spans the length of an entire wall. She has gone on and had talks with them about how we can best steward the things God has given us. For instance, the kids have shared how they can steward the planet by picking up garbage and not wasting water. These kids have big hearts…Big hearts. When someone has a birthday, everyone is joyful for them and celebrates. When playing a game, kids make sure everyone has had a turn; no one is to be left out!

When praying, they want to pray for all their families and anyone who is in the hospital and every pet. As their teacher’s we get taken aback by them and understand a little bit more why Jesus says, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 Now that the Holiday Season is upon us, Kids Connection will be highlighting walking in thanks-giving and being a blessing to others. We have three outreaches lined up for October, November and December.October 14, 2018: Special Guests speak to us about Operation Christmas Child and together as a class we will put together a box for one boy and one girl.November 11, 2018: Special Guest speaker will come and talk to us about the animals at the Animal Rescue. Together as a class we will put together baskets with things our furry friends need. December, 2018: Kids Connection is planning a field trip to Monte Vista Retirement Home. Our purpose is to bless these residents with Holiday cheer by singing songs and giving cookies. With Love and Thanksgiving for the great delight in ministering to your kids!

Contemplative Prayer

This Fall we started Upward Soccer. This has been a wonderful program for our community. We have over 60 kids participating from 5 year olds to 11 year olds. It has been a great way to get families together, community members coaching and reffing and more of our community coming together for a common purpose: soccer and fun! We are thankful for all the people that are involved and investing positively in our kids. The kids are truly loving it!

On the after school side we started a coding class this semester for Launch Pad, Middle School and High school students. we received a Youth Spark grant from Microsoft. We are excited to be teaching all of our interested students about computer science. They will learn about html code, simple animations, programming micro:bits to make robots and other cool things and so much more. We are looking forward to this new program and how our kids will grow over the next year.

Youth GroupMY WAYS ARE BEYOND YOUR WAYS, AND MY THOUGHTS ARE BEYOND YOUR THOUGHT - Isaiah 55:9

God has provided various ways to experience the fathomless mystery of His loving presence. Contemplative Prayer was brought back into general practice in the 14th century by Anonymous, the author of The Cloud of Unknowing. From these ways of praying have come Centering Prayer and Christian Meditation. Join us as we experience God’s presence within us, a communion with the Indwelling Trinity. Deepening our relationship with the living Christ is the focus of Contemplative prayer.

Thursday, NOVEMBER 29th from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. We will meet at the Welcome Center and then go to McKee Chapel to practice 20” of Contemplative Prayer. Afterward there is time to share what we are learning and how God is changing us from within this practice. All are welcome. For more information, call 915-433-5034.
