2. Outline
How to lead by example
Ten rules for working and living to be a more effective leader
Furthermoreeven more ways to lead by example
3. How to Lead by Example
Leading by example will help fashion yourself into the kind of person people will follow
Example is not the main thing in influencing
others, it is the only thing.Albert Schweitzer
4. Ten Rules for Working and Living
5. The Lives We Live are the Lives We Create
Expectations are often self-fulfilling
Take control of your life or it will control you

6. Health and Productivity go Hand in Hand
It does not matter what you do as long as it is not destructive to others and you are making a contribution
All work has inherent dignity
People can grow and make contributions to others
7. As We Treat Others, So Shall We Be Treated
People notice how we treat them, especially when in a leadership position
People can learn how to treat others by watching how people in leadership positions treat people
Make your words sweet: you may have to eat them later!
8. Dont Wait for Solutions: Create Them
The active and passive:
The passive (negative) position waits for someone else to make a bad situation better
The active (positive) position works to make an awareness so that all involved can work together to make it better

9. Negativity Kills
Negativity is contagious
People are drawn to leaders through their attitude and ability to overcome negativity
If negativity is a cancer, then good leaders, just in the way they carry themselves and approach the world, fight that cancer, all the time.
10. Communication Starts With Listening
You dont have to be talkative to be a leader
Listen (dont try to plan response)
By setting a tone of listening, other will follow
11. Between Two Positions Always Lies a Third Option
At least one way to view an issue
Expanding the issue
Finding a third alternative
Creating a negotiated compromise
Effective leaders have the ability to generate those options
12. Laughter Cures
You gotta laugh!
Laughter is even more infectious than negativity
Laughter can draw people to you
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
13. Do Great Work, Have Fun and Lend a Hand Along the Way
Great work is rewarding
Be a master of your craft and enjoy what you do
Help others along the way (setting an example for others)
14. In the End, We Are All More or Less Human
People are not perfect
People make mistakes, that makes us human
The pursuit of near perfection is more important than achieving it
15. 16. Furthermore
Lead with honesty
Create a strong and fluid circle of advisors
Always take responsibility
Dont be afraid to praise
Create an inspirational culture
Articulate the mission
Be inclusive
Share the rewards
Roll up your sleeves
Demonstrate integrity
17. Summary
Leading by example will benefit not only your work but also your life
Establish principles concerning the way people should be treated
Be a model for others
