HABITAT You will most likely see these African animals in woodlands

areas. They use grasslands only for traveling. If fresh green food is available they do not need water. They live in South Africa No hibernation Lions are their most threatening predator

COOL FACTS Giraffe is the tallest animal in the world, 16-

18 feet. They weigh up to 2000 pounds. Giraffes live up to be 25 years of age.

BODY SYSTEM Giraffes body patches are for camouflage . Giraffes are endothermic. They have long muscular tongues that can

reach up to 18 inches. Giraffes are ruminants, which means they

regulate their food after partial digestion and chew it further.

They have four compartments in their stomach.

DIET Giraffes are highly selective eaters. Their diets consists of comprising leaves

and shoots of trees and shrubs, also some vines and herbs.

REPRODUCTION Female giraffes conceive for the first time

when 5 years old. Calves are usually 6 feet tall and weigh

about 100-150 pounds. They stand up about 20 minutes after birth. Mating is not seasonal.
