In these troubling times we need to turn to
the Lord more than ever to ask Him to
bless, protect and restore our country and
cause a spirit of repentance and renewal
to sweep across our land. Please join us
Thursdays from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. in the
church to pray the Rosary and Chaplet of
Divine Mercy for our country. Prayer is
powerful and effective. It is one of the
most important things we can do.

Today as we celebrate the feast of the Ascension
we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on
earth continues through his disciples…and now
through us.
When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and
joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the hearts of those we
serve.

If you have a loved one or know of a
special person serving in our Armed Forces
please call the Parish Office, 323-2379 so
that we can include them on our list.
May the angels welcome you to paradise.
May the martyrs greet you on your way.
May you see the face of the Lord this day.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Please pray for
Connie Gurrola
Arlene Tichnell
who passed away this past week.
Our sincere sympathy to their families.
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Mother’s Day
I would like to extend a happy
Mother’s Day to all mothers,
grandmothers, godmothers and
those that are like mothers to us.
The way mother’s demonstrate
love for us as children is a great
example of the way God loves and
cares for us. I recall the beautiful
words that my wife used to repeat
over and over to my sons when
they were little. Their favorite book
was “Love you forever”. These
words certainly seem to sum up a
mother’s love.
“I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
as long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.”
I would just add that
I think the beauty of
a Mother’s love is
that it is forever,
even beyond death.
Love is stronger than
death. So whether your mother is
still alive or is not with you today, let
us rejoice and be grateful because
a mother’s love is forever.
Baccalaureate Mass and Brunch
This is such a wonderful celebration
of the achievement of graduation

here for the Mass and Brunch.” The
celebration begins with the 9:00
a.m. Mass (participants meet at
8:40 in the parish hall in their
graduation gown) and the brunch
will follow in Fr. Weber Hall. Please
keep all of our high school
graduates in your prayers.
Preregistration is required for the
breakfast.

On May 21st (6:30-8:00 PM) we will continue
praise and worship in place of our weekly
adoration and reconciliation. For the last few
decades there has been a pressing need for a
New Evangelization of society especially in our
state and country. Without the grace and guidance of the Holy
Spirit there cannot be a new evangelization. Monday after
Pentecost we will gather together praying for a fresh outpouring of
the Holy Spirit on our parish. Along with worship, reconciliation, and
adoration, we will have trained prayer teams offering prayer
ministry to those who desire it. Let’s be open to the work of the
Holy Spirit to animate our many good works here at St. Gerard.
Guine Christian is leading the worship once again with Fr. Vincent
presenting the message. Don’t miss this chance to praise the living
God, adore Him, and restore our relationship with Him. This will be
our last worship time for a few months. Our regular adoration
schedule will continue for all other weeks on Mondays. Be
prepared for the adoration schedule to change starting in early
June.
The St. Gerard Vocations Team wants to
thank all parishioners who participated in
the renewal of marriage vows that took
place at the Masses on World Marriage
Sunday. Additionally, we were pleased to
see so many couples turn out for the brunch
that was served after the 9:00 Mass. It truly
was our pleasure to serve you!

Homebound of our parish, please pray for
the following intentions this week.
Mother’s Day: In thanksgiving for our
Mothers and those who have been like
mothers to us. May the Lord bless them
for the goodness they bring to each of us
every day.
That our youth events this week may help
them grow in Christ as they interact with
their peers.
For those who participate in bible studies
and other faith formation opportunities
this week; may the Spirit touch them as
they study & grow in their faith.
For those gathering for meetings this
week: may they be open to the
guidance of the Holy Spirit as they plan
their upcoming events and celebrate
the ministry in which they are involved.
For those who grieve, may they be
comforted. And may those who attend
the grief support group feel the love and
support of a community who walks with
them in their grief.
May couples preparing for marriage
know the importance of including God in
their married lives together.

We are called to be witnesses of Christ’s boundless love for the
poor, the lonely, the suffering and the deprived. In recognition of
our commitment to these chosen ones our West Saginaw Meijer
store has selected our Saint Vincent de Paul Conference as the
recipient of this year’s Spring “Simply Give” Program. The Spring
“Simply Give” program will run from Sunday May 13 through June
17, 2018. As before, Meijer will match each $10 donation card you
purchase.
Meijer will double-match all donations
made on Friday June 1st. One day only!
The “Simply Give” funds can only be used to purchase food; they
cannot be used to provide utility assistance, rental assistance,

poor. Your monetary donations to the Society of Saint Vincent de
Paul are used to address these other demands. We understand
the needs of each family and appreciate the generosity that you
have already extended to date, but if you are able to participate
further please know that the need is real and that your
contributions, whether through the “Simply Give” program or
through direct contributions to Saint Vincent de Paul, will be spent

The St. Gerard Pastoral Council is governed by its 17 page set of By Laws. Similarly, the St. Gerard Women’s Guild is also governed by its own 7 page set of By Laws. Both sets of By Laws are revised from time to time to accommodate necessary changes. Both the Pastoral Council and the St. Gerard Women’s Guild are hereby announcing proposed revisions to their respective By Laws for the purpose of providing parish members an opportunity to comment on the proposed revisions.
Registered parish members are invited to provide written comments no later than May 15, 2018 to either; 1) the Parish Office, attention Steve Buda or 2) [email protected]
Both sets of By Laws, with proposed changes highlighted, are available for review in the Parish Office or at http://www.stgerard.org/parishioner-tools-forms Summary of Proposed Changes in the Women’s Guild By Laws
The St. Gerard Women’s Guild By Laws are changed to reflect the revised title from “St. Gerard Women’s Guild” to “Women of St. Gerard.” Thus, all references in the By Laws of “St. Gerard Women’s Guild” have simply been replaced by the new title “Women of St. Gerard”.
Summary of Proposed Changes in the Parish Council Constitution and By Laws
The Parish Council Constitution and By Laws are changed to reflect the following additions and clarifications:
1) the May 2018 Public Noticed revision of the Women of St. Gerard By Laws,
2) the added Recording Secretary duty to maintain a tally of voting members,
3) clarification of what constitutes a quorum for decision making meetings
4) addition of the requirement of an “affirmative roll call” vote for decisions to amend the By Laws.
Led by the Word and centered on the Eucharist, we are a community of hope, called to proclaim
our faith, inspire God’s people, and serve the needs of others in all we do.
