Main outcome: Identification of the main critical mountain ecological
corridors for flagship species (large carnivores)
A detailed map of ecological corridors, including threatened wetland habitats,
accessible to spatial planners and stakeholders will be developed.
Solutions how to preserve and improve connectivity and protect corridors and
wetlands from various threats will be identified, in particular in targeted pilot
sites.
Improve the restoration, management and integration of ecological corridors
and wetland habitats in spatial development processes and infrastructure
planning.
Strategy for integrated management of ecological corridors and wetland
habitats of transnational relevance
ConnectGreen
WP3 Knowledge and information source base
- Guidelines for securing eco-corridors as well as for reducing conflicts
between regional development, spatial planning and nature conservation
- Identifying best practices in the region and in Europe, in terms of green
infrastructure aimed at improving ecological connectivity and spatial
development
WP4 Innovative pilot sites
- create a web-based decision support system
- identify at detail scale eco-corridors and habitats
- assessments of physical barriers (housing, urban sprawl, etc.) in selected pilot areas

RO: WWF-DCP-Romania, Milvus group
AT: UNEP – Interim Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention
Working package 3: Data collection, methodologies and guidelines
- Analysis of “state of the art”
- Model catalogue of measures to improve transport infrastructure in terms of ecological
connectivity
- Strategic Action Plan for sustainable transport development of the Carpathians
- Guidance document on integrated biodiversity friendly transport infrastructure
planning, implementation, management and monitoring in Danube basin
- Handbook for establishing a monitoring system (mitigation objects / road killed
animals)
- Develop and design training modules on EIA, SEA, AA, and ESPOO
TransGreen
Working package 4: Pilot sites actions
- Analysis of legal and institutional frameworks with regard to transport infrastructure
development, protection of road-less ares, ecological corridors and administrative
practice
- Collect scientific and field data based on the gap analysis - movement/migration
corridors, national road networks, ecological connectivity, biodiversity hotsports in
relation to transport infrastructure development at the local level
- Review plans and related documents for transport infrastructure development in the
selected pilot areas considering ecological corridors and road-less areas
- Seek to reach agreements with relevant authorities from the transport, spatial planning
and nature conservation sectors to implement concrete measures
- Organise EIA trainings with a focus on ecological corridors for relevant authorities
- Organise awareness rising avents
TransGreen
Working package 4: Pilot sites
CZ-SVK-PL Pilot site
- Develop methodology for road kills registration and recommendations on how to
minimize road mortality considering traffic and fragmentation
- Establish a robust monitoring system of large carnivores' abundance based on camera
trapping and snow-tracking in at least 3 reference areas within the pilot site
HU-SVK-UA Pilot site
Romania: Lugoj-Deva pilot site, Targu Mures - Iasi pilot site
