3. Chapter activities:
Chapter meetings:
As a Student Chapter we are holding meetings twice a month in our room provided by
our Department of Metrology and Optoelectronics or in another room at our Faculty's
building (when there are too many people to fit in). On those meetings we discuss our
current projects. Also more experienced members of our Chapter do workshops on
how to make good oral presentations. Each meeting takes from 45 to 60 minutes.
We also organise cyclical workshops from electronics and optoelectronics. They take
place twice a month alternately with the Chapters' meetings. As a result of such often
meetings we were able to recruit new young members from first year students at our
Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics.
Conferences:
We have attended the OPTO-Meeting for Young Researchers & 10th Anniversary
International SPIE Student Chapter Meeting 2015 in Wrocław. Four members (M.
Trojanowski, A. Szreder, A. Wieloszyńska, A. Kamińska) of our chapter have presented
their work in form of presentation and posters. During conference we were able to
renew our contacts with other chapters from Poland.
Our Vice-President took part in ITMO Student Chapters Leadership Meeting &
International Year of Light Opening Ceremony in Saint-Petersburg on April 1-3. It
enabled him to gain new contacts with chapters from Europe and Asia.
Baltic Science Festival
Every year at Gdańsk University of Technology, which we are part of, is organized a
science festival. Its goal is to show science to young people and encourage them to
study at our university. Our task is to organise events at our department. In this years
edition we made two events. First was a laser obstacle course, where participants had
a small piece of foil that helped them to determine where are laser rays in order to
avoid them and get to our grand prize. They had to get to the prize and grab it
without activating alarm. Second event was our yearly classic called optic shooting
range, where we use specially modified BB-gun (equipped with IR laser) and target
(CCD matrix) to conduct a shooting tournament.

This year we also took part in two another events called: “PG Open” and “Girls to
Technical Universities”. Their goal was to encourage high school students to study
science, preferably at our university.
Workshops for special education high school students:
Our mission was to present the basics of optoelectronics to the special education
students. This year a group of around 20 young people visited our Department and we
showed them few attractive experiments in our laboratory and organised a small
shooting tournament.

4. Future planned activities:
Our next year plans include organising next OPTO-Meeting for Young
Researchers 2016 in collaboration with other Polish SPIE chapters.
We will help with organising next years edition of Baltic Science Festival with
upgraded laser obstacle course and probably few new events. Of course our
optic shooting range will be one of them. We are also planning to take part in
another science festivals such as “Picnic of inspiration” in Iława.
We are going to continue organising the workshops from electronics and take
part in workshops organised at our University and Department: LabView,
Design Thinking etc.
5. Financial information:
We have used founding from SPIE activity grant to pay for conference in
Wrocław as well as printing posters for our chapter. Also we used them to buy
necessary elements for workshops mentioned before and projects made by
members.
We have used Officer Travel Grant to send Michał Trojanowski to conference
Optics & Photonics 2015 and Student Chapter Leadership Workshop held in San
Diego.
Next year we plan to use Activity Grant for founding chapter projects as well as
for marketing purposes. Also we would like to send one of our officers to a
conference using Officer Travel Grant and we plan on using Visiting Lecturer
grant.
