  • Transportation Oriented Problems(Course Revision)Aspects on which you can differentiate type of tests conducted for hypothesis

    Confidence IntervalZ-statistics & T-statisticsChi-square statistics ANOVA tests or F-statisticsRegression

  • Problem 1:Travel time required to travel a particular link in the road network is required to determine. A usual factors to determine this are the time required to travel on the link when link is in free flow condition and volume of the traffic traveling on the link. Raw data is provided with travel time measurements, find out the linear expression that best fitted the data.

Hint: Try various things to increase R-square, t-statistics of co-efficient.

  • Problem 2: A certain TDM policy result in the following distribution of transport mode used in a particular city for commuter trips. Test the claim of the transport authority that the TDM policy is effective in reducing motorized transport modes and hence reduce congestion in the city. City generates an overall 12000 trips per day

(Think which test is best suited here)

  • Problem 3:Make a random sample (constituting countries) from the data shown and illustrate whether Fuel prices, Transport Energy use and Annual vehicle travel explain road fatalities.

Make a stratified sample in a manner of developed and less developed countries and test the hypothesis that less developed countries are always have higher chances of road fatalities.

  • Problem 4:Test the following hypotheses based on the data shown in earlier slide. In category three, mode share for all transport mode is equal.Share of Auto Rickshaw is equal for all categories of cities within IndiaShare of Walking is equal for all categories of cities within IndiaCity categories within India are not related with the types of modes used for daily travel
