Human Distortion and Deformation of Figure & Identity

This is my current working project. This is a self-written brief, exploring at the idea of distortion a subject matter I’m very interested in and very keen to produce a outcome I am proud of. My work will then be presented at the Lightbox gallery in Woking. In this project I will be using all of my strongest attributes and media’s that I like to use such as drawing and Photoshop and eventually create a final outcome that uses a mixture of different styles.

The Lightbox Project

This project was a live brief given to us by the Lightbox gallery themselves to create pieces of merchandise and most importantly a poster advertising the Lightbox and a possible exhibition. To do this we started of by choosing an area of the gallery we wanted to look at, for example the café; I chose to look at the Basingstoke Canal which flows past behind the Lightbox building, furthermore I wanted to look at the reflections on the water.

In this project we had to look at many different things that were important in making a poster, for example typography and positioning of the words and images. Another area we had to look as was merchandising which for me included an IPhone case and notebooks. From this project I learnt a lot about Photoshop and feel that I have improved a lot in this media and still want to get better.

Structures (AS)This was the first project I did when I decided to move to Woking college. I wanted to include some of the drawings and paintings I did in this project to show a different side of work that I can do rather than just Photoshop. I think primary and secondary study work is important to inform my ideas.

Fine art (AS) ArchitectureDuring my time at Fullbrook Sixth form I studied Fine Art. In this project I used a lot of mixed media, whether it be in Photoshop or with marbling and stencils I knew that my strongest attributes in art were more on the graphical side rather than fine art. This is eventually why I decided to make the switch to Woking college to study the applied art course.

Animals (AS Fine Art)My second project in the fine art course was Animals and from this I decided I wanted to use the photographs I had taken during a school trip to Kenya. In this project I did a lot of drawing from the photographs I had taken although I did use different types of pencil’s like charcoal and pastel pencils, overall I feel that this project was one of my best and was one I enjoyed the most resulting in a final outcome that I really liked.
