Well, it is the start of another year of events for your local AWS welding section. Some changes that have taken place since the last newsletter are as follows; I have again taken on the role as Section Chair, Tom LaVenture is a new face to the section board and has agreed to take on the Secretary responsibilities and Todd Bridigum will remain as Treasurer this year. Lastly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Pamela Lesemann for her dedication and hard work as last years chair. One of the most difficult challenges is to bring in new faces to take on these responsibilities, I would encourage anyone that has an interest in “giving back” to attend some of the planning meetings and get a feel for what we do, it’s not difficult. Contact me if interested and I will let you know where we are meeting.

This year past was successful in that the section awarded $8100.00 in educational scholarships. Nice job Bob Sands and Mace Harris for your continued dedication to supporting education!

I would also like to recognize Mike Hanson. He is the Website Manager for the section and does an outstanding job. I would encourage you to go the website and look through it. It can be found at: www.AWS.org/sections/northwest I feel this will become more important as we go forward. We are considering it to be the vehicle for the newsletter. The cost to the section to mail out this document is very expensive, $700 - $1000 per mailing and with the availability of the Internet; we believe this to be beneficial to the section. This is still in the discussion phase so any feedback is appreciated.

We are also discussing sending information via the email rather than through the US Postal Service. If you have any concerns or suggestions about this, feel free to email me. Just put “Section Business” in the subject line so it doesn’t “accidentally” get deleted.

We will be attempting to fulfill the needs of the membership in the section this year, as always. Please contact anyone of the people listed in the back with questions, concerns, or ideas. This is your section and you have a voice.

The Northwest Section annual Certified Welding Inspector Seminar and Exam is coming to the

Ramada Mall of America. The Seminar will be held from

Sunday, September 30th through Friday, October 5th with the Exam to follow on

Saturday, October 6th.
