    10 VENUES PLANNED FOR 2018

  • Mainstreaming biodiversity

    Having just a green space is not good enough!

    • quality of the environment - presence of wildlife in urban vegetation.

    • balance between the natural and the built environment achieved.

    • quality of human life is enriched with daily contact with nature.

    • presence of wildlife create excitement, add movements, colour & sound to green open space.

    • a large expanse of green space devoid of wildlife is sterile, uninteresting & lifeless – a garden without sound of birds chirping is unexciting.

    • Mainstreaming biodiversity - BRING BACK WILDLIFE to our parks & cities.

  • Simple concepts & prerequisites

    • concentrate on species that people like having around them, i.e. birds & small mammals; &

    • it is possible to provide suitable habitat for them.

    • Habitat requirements - Diversity

    Mainstreaming biodiversity

    BRING BACK THE WILDLIFE!!!

    Let’s bring brack the birds… (CSKL 1988)

  • Bring Back the Birds Park Design

    A park or green open space should have:

    1. A refuge area (area of dense vegetation where birds can hide);

    2. A connecting corridors (for birds to hop between different parts of the park, & to connect with other parks);

    3. Lawn with ornamental plants;4. Long & short grass area (for birds

    that feed on grass seeds/grains); and

    5. Open spaces for human’s active use. CONNECTING CORRIDOR

  • MAIN REFUGE AREA CONNECTING CORRIDOR

    Plant species diversity

    Park Design structural complexity (trees of different heights, leave shapes & branch structures)

  • CROSS SECTION OF REFUGE AREA

    Different tree density clustering , ground cover (grass area) & low vegetation (undergrowth).

    Park Design

  • Park Design

    CROSS SECTION OF REFUGE AREA

    Water body with sloping vegetated banks

    Variety of food sources (grass seeds, trees which provide flowers/nectars, fruits & host insects).

    Different niches –different bird species occupy different parts of a plant.
