TRANSCRIPT
“Today, on the First Sunday of Advent, we begin a new liturgical year; that is, a new journey of the People of God with Jesus Christ, our Shepherd, who guides us through history toward the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, this day has a special charm, it makes us experience deeply the meaning of history. We rediscover the beauty of all being on a journey: the Church, with her vocation and mission, and all humanity, peoples, civilizations, cultures, all on a journey across the paths of time… The time of Advent that we begin again today returns us to the horizon of hope, a hope that does not disappoint because it is founded on the Word of God. A hope that does not disappoint, simply because the Lord never disappoints! He is faithful!”

Lord, hold our troops in Your loving hands, protect them as they protect us. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior.
WELCOME! We are glad you are here! If you would like to join our faith community, please take a New Parishioner Information Packet from the vestibule or contact/come by the office and let us know how we may be of service to you!
The Sanctuary Lamp burns constantly to proclaim the real presence of Jesus in the Tabernacle. This week it also reminds us to pray for the repose of the soul of John Augustyniak.
This Week, Altar flowers have been donated in honor of the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Madison and Mary Ann Hudson.

Saint Paul today gives us the focus for our prayer when he says that the God who began a good work in us will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. As we hear in the other readings today of the coming of the Lord into the deserts of our lives, let us bear in mind that we too can bear the presence of the Lord into the lives of those around us, carrying on the good work that God has begun in us.

Father, all the elements of nature obey Your command. Calm the storms and hurricanes that threaten us and turn our fear of Your power into praise of Your goodness. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Students at Saint Benedict Catholic School are happy to be back in the season of Advent. It is an energized period of waiting and worship. On December 6th, The Performance Choir will perform at the Lillian Christmas Songfest. The following week is the Immaculate Conception Mass and the SBCS Annual Christmas Program. While students will be studying, worshipping and performing, they will also be bringing in gifts to be distributed to needy children by Catholic Social Services. The final week of the semester will be filled with finals and assessments. Even though we have all this hustle and bustle, we are reminded through Mass, classroom activities and Religion classes that Christ will soon be born, and we need to show our love to others as He did for us through Jesus’ birth and resurrection.

Special thanks to my family and friends who were able to attend the Christ the King Ceremony at the Cathedral in Mobile last Sunday. It was a great honor for me to receive my Medal. I also want to thank Fr. Carucci, and all my friends who couldn’t attend this special Mass due to their weekend obligations here at Our Lady of the Gulf. It honors me to share my medal with all of you who serve our church in all our ministries.
Your Friend in Christ, Vivian

Pope Francis announced an extraordinary jubilee, a Holy Year of Mercy, to be celebrated from December 8, 2015 (the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and the fiftieth anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council) until November 20, 2016 (the Feast of Christ the King).Pope Francis proclaims, “I am convinced that the whole Church will find in this jubilee the joy needed to rediscover and make fruitful the mercy of God, with which all of us are called to give consolation to every man and woman of our time. From this moment, we entrust this Holy Year to the Mother of Mercy, that she might turn her gaze upon us and watch over the journey.”The Door of Mercy is a special Holy Door, which Pope Francis has asked to be opened in every Diocese during the Extraordinary Holy Year in order to allow the faithful in every part of the world to experience the Mercy of the Father in its fullness. Pope Francis writes: “On the same Sunday [Third Sunday of Advent], I decree that in every local church, at the cathedral, a Door of Mercy will be opened for the duration of the Holy Year. A similar door may be opened at any shrine frequented by large groups of pilgrims, since visits to these holy sites are so often grace-filled moments, as people discover a path to conversion” (MV 3). Archbishop Rodi has designated Our Lady of the Gulf such a shrine. To experience and obtain the Indulgence, the faithful are called to make a brief pilgrimage to the Holy Door, as a sign of the deep desire for true conversion. It is important that this moment be linked, first and foremost, to the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with a reflection on mercy. It will be necessary to accompany these celebrations with the profession of faith and with prayer for me and for the intentions that I bear in my heart for the good of the Church and of the entire world. On December 13, the Door of Mercy at Our Lady of the Gulf will be blessed at the beginning of 10:00 a.m. Mass.
Confessions are heard every day at 7:30 a.m. and Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Fr. Carucci is always available for confessions by appointment.
