The Nip Pressure Measurement System (NPMS) is a force/pressure sensor that maps the pressure distribution along a nip or roller. The system measures and displays, in real-time, the pinch forces every 2 in. (5 cm) along the roll nip. The wireless transmitter of the sensor instantly sends the profile data to a PC/laptop (up to 100 m away).

The convenient housing of the system allows a manufacturing operator to easily make adjustments prior to a production run. A calibrated profile can be saved to the PC as a reference, removing the guesswork out of setup. Multiple sizes are available for various roller applications.

The NPMS Windows-based software provides a real-time image of the pressure distribution across each sensing col-umn. The image below displays a bar graph with the total force on each column. Snapshots of pressure profiles can be captured for archiving, analysis and comparison. The color scale can be adjusted to optimize the image.
