LITURGY OF THE WORD

The Lord instructs Moses and Aaron regarding the Passover meal. They are to eat roasted lamb, unleavened bread, and bitter herbs. They are to sprinkle blood of the lamb on the house doorpost as a sign that those inside obeyed God’s command.

First Scripture - Book of Exodus 12:1–8, 11–14

Paul recounts the tradition of the Lord’s Supper: Jesus said, “This is my body that is for you. This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this in remembrance of me.

Second Scripture - First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians 11:23–26

Responsorial - Psalm 116: Our Blessing Cup Marty Haugen

Text: Psalm 116, Marty Haugen, © 1983, GIA Publications, Inc.

How can I make a return to the Lord for all God has done for me? The cup of salvation I will take up, I will call on the name of the Lord.

Precious, indeed, in the sight of the Lord is the death of the faithful ones; and I am your servant, your chosen one, for you have set me free.

Unto your name I will offer my thanks for the debt that I owe to you. In the presence of all who have called on your name, in the courts of the house of the Lord.

Gloria - Glory to God, continued Carroll T. Andrews

The Washing of Feet - Jesu, Jesu, Fill Us with Your Love Ghanaian folk song

Text: Tom Colvin © 1969, Hope Publishing. Tune: CHEREPONI

Kneels at the feet of his friends, silently washes their feet, Master who pours out himself for them.

Neighbors are rich and poor, neighbors are black and white, Neighbors are near and far away.

These are the ones we should serve, these are the ones we should love. All are neighbors to us and you.

Kneel at the feet of our friends, silently washing their feet, This is the way we should live with you.

1. Hail our Savior’s glorious Body, which his Virgin Mother bore; Hail the Blood which, shed for sinners, did a broken world restore; Hail the sacrament most holy, Flesh and Blood of Christ adore!

2. To the Virgin, for our healing, His own Son the Father sends; From the Father’s love proceeding sower, seed, and word descends; Wondrous life of Word incarnate with his greatest wonder ends.

3. On that paschal evening see him with the chosen twelve recline, To the old law still obedient in its feast of love divine; Love divine, the new law giving, gives himself as Bread and Wine.

4. By his word the Word almighty makes of bread his flesh indeed; Wine becomes his very lifeblood; faith God’s living Word must heed! Faith alone may safely guide us where the senses cannot lead!

5. Tantum ergo Sacraméntum Venerémur cérnui: Et antíquum documéntum Novo cedat rítui; Praestet fides suppleméntum Sénsuum deféctui.

6. Genitóri, Genitóque Laus et jubilátio, Salus, honor; virtus quoque Sit et benedíctio: Procedénti ab utróque Compar sit laudátio. Amen.
