Message from Mr. Hackbusch
I wanted to thank everyone who participated in the March Madness
Fundraiser last month. The event raised nearly $40,000 for campus
improvements. Stay tuned for important information on how these funds
will be utilized to improve the school. Special thanks go out to the
Peppermill Hotel and Casino for hosting the event. Linda Feroah, Michele
Lane, Tina Rooker, Jim Pace, Rick Murdock, the Worrall Family and the
entire March Madness Committee who organized the event. We also
thank all the families and 4th period classes who created amazing silent
auction baskets. We also had an impressive list of live auction donors as
well—and we thank them for their contributions! We are looking at
changing the fundraiser for next year-- both on the calendar and with the
theme. Stay tuned for more information in the future.
The next two months will be filled with testing. We will be proctoring a
science HSPE to sophomores, End of Course Exams, Advanced Placement
Exams will also be proctored. We will be sending out separate
information on a later date with specific testing information.
ONLINE REGISTRATION-VERY IMPORTANT!
Parents, we only have ½ of each class who have completed the online
registration. On Line registration for 2016-17 is open, this is the first step
of four that must be completed for each student before they will be given
a schedule. Logon to your parent portal, check your “Inbox messages”
then click on the blue Online Registration link. If you need help with your
parent portal contact Kim Borders, 333-5050 #34003 or
[email protected]. We cannot schedule classes in the
system without this step being completed.
EVENTS AROUND CAMPUS
We will be hosting our annual Anti-Bullying presentation in the
Theater on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12th and 13th for our
Frosh Seminar Students. Staff Sergeant Isabel Dixon will be here
from the National Guard to do the Helping Everyone Earn Respect
(HEAR) Anti Bullying presentation. Michele Gehr, Executive
Director of the Eddy House will also do a presentation on this
community resource for our students. We hope to have
representatives from the Crisis/Suicide Call Center here to talk to the
students about this important resource.
Library News – Check It Out
Spring ahead – April is Poetry Month! For inspiration see http://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/.
Most popular authors at RHS library right now: non-fiction - Malcolm Gladwell, and fiction - Cassandra Clare.
As always, we encourage students to use Destiny, our electronic card catalog. From home it’s http://washoeschools.follettdestiny.com. Choose Reno High School. It includes a wide variety of useful information and links. Also, students may use the databases we have available to us: EBSCO, ABC-CLIO, World Book, and TeachingBooks.net. For user names and passwords get a Nevada Statewide Licensed Database printout here at the library, or call or email [email protected].
For the free Destiny App, search for Destiny Quest, choose Basic Install, type washoeschools.follettdestiny.com, and choose Reno High School. User name: student ID number. Password: student’s last name.
Remember, Washoe County Library cards are free for residents and allow patrons to use even more databases and a newer service, audio book downloads; see http://www.washoecountylibrary.us.
There are a lot of overdue library books out there. Due dates are stamped on the blue card in the book pocket. Students are supposed to receive reminder notices in third period once a week (teacher dependent), but if you see library books around your house, please have your son/daughter return or renew them. Fines accrue at 10¢ per school day.
Donations: Yes, please! We’re looking for newer fiction and non-fiction books. In non-fiction, we are currently interested in YA and adult biographies, and anything sports related or health related (newer publications only).
Junior/Senior Prom
will be help April 16th from 8-11 p.m.
at the Nugget in the Rose Ballroom.
The theme is the Yule Ball. Tickets
are on sale at lunch and after school
in R5 starting this Wednesday, 4/6.
The last day to buy tickets is Friday,
4/15. Tickets are $25 for a single and
$45 for a couple. Students must have
their ID to purchase tickets, and they
must have their ID for entrance into
prom. If students need a guest pass,
they should see Tina Rooker no later
than Wednesday, 4/13.
