Downtown Wickenburg has gone green! The Town of Wickenburg recently completed a project to convert its downtown street lamps to energy-efficient light emitting diodes, or LEDs. The result is a historic district that is brighter at night and will reduce the Town’s electricity bills.

All 184 street lamps were converted from halogen bulbs to the LEDs as part of the project, which came in 20% under bud-get at a total cost of $20,682.93. According to manufacturer esti-mates, the project should pay for itself in a period of just under three years, with energy sav-ings offsetting the Town’s capital investment. The LEDs are about 40% more efficient than the halo-gen bulbs.

“This project benefits Wickenburg on a number of lev-els,” said the Town’s Director of Public Works, Vince Lorefice, who oversaw the project. “It saves our taxpayers money on energy costs, makes it easier to see at night, and cuts down on staff maintenance time with the 10-year warranty we received from the vendor.”

After gathering quotes from multiple companies, the Town selected Energy Efficient Products, LLC, for the job. The street lamps also recently received a fresh coat of black paint and new promotional banners through other Town projects. The Hassayampa River Walk, which is slated to open next month, will also feature LED street lamps.
