For events fewer than 20,000 the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce was recognized for Best Merchandise for Sale – 25th Anniversary Cowboy Christmas Poets Gathering Poster, Best Radio Spot for the 25th Anniversary Fiesta de Septiembre, and Best TV Ad Spot for the 34th Annual Bluegrass Festival. Desert Caballeros Western Museum Board Chairman Peter Schweitzer recently announced the appointment of Sandra Harris as Interim Director of the Museum. Please stop by and welcome her to Wickenburg! If you haven’t met Sandra before then, you’ll have a chance to when we kick off this sea-son’s Book Club on Friday, October 3 at noon.

La Siesta Plaza at 472 E. Wickenburg Way is the home of the new La Siesta Conference Center. Set up for businesses, individuals or clubs in need of a place to meet, the conference center features Internet access, white board, flat-screen television and a conference table and chairs. Three breakout rooms are also available, along with food service areas. Owner Charlie Hoch explained, the conference table seats approximately eight, but the room can be reconfigured to meet specific needs of larger groups. Food service for all-day or half-day meetings is available with a choice of carry-in menu options. Beverage service and continental breakfast are also available.

La Siesta Plaza is also home to the Motor Vehicle Department and Award Realty. Retail and office spaces are available for lease. Some of the spaces are finished with carpet, interior walls and paint, while others are ready for build out. The preserve is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Admission fees are $5 per person, $3 for Conservancy members. The Book Club will be meeting on the lower level of the main museum build-ing that day. Rosebrook will regale us with his new novel, “Purgatory Road,”. The next Book Club session after that will be at noon on Friday, October 31 in the Learning Center when Jana Bommersbach presents her new historical novel, “Cattle Kate.” Cattle Kate is the only woman ever lynched as a cattle rustler. Bommersbach’s presentations are always lively and entertaining. Both books are available for purchase in the Museum Store. Mark your cal-endars now for the 34th Annual Home Tour sponsored by Las Senoras de Socorro to benefit the Desert Caballeros Western Museum – November 1st - A tour of several unique homes in Wickenburg, entrance to the museum, free holiday market at the Community Center, 2:00 p.m. Also scheduled during the day is an Interior Design Seminar conducted by Wickenburg Home Interiors. Tickets may be purchased in advance from the museum or at www.lassenoras.org $25 admission – 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The entire month of October, The Chaparral, The Official Homemade Ice Cream of Wickenburg, will be serving up “mammo-grahams”! Chaparral will generously donate 60% of the proceeds of each “mammo-graham” to help “boot out” breast cancer in the Wickenburg area. Chaparral is located at 45 N. Community Development Curtis Spencer, President of IMS Worldwide, gave a presentation on the

Greater Maricopa Foreign Trade Zone last week to members of the Chamber’s Community Development Committee, and detailed the advantages it gives the West Valley in attracting new businesses. He demonstrated how the GMFTZ has saved companies hundreds of thousands of dollars while boosting the local economy. Also in attendance was GMFTZ Chairman, Arthur Othon and Westmarc Executive Director, Michelle Rider. The Chamber Board of Directors encouraged the Town of Wickenburg to pursue dialogue with IMS Worldwide for economic development assistance.

Committee Update:

Production of the “Official Town of Wickenburg” map is underway and you are invited to place a display ad on the map. This map will be a 2’ x 3’ size in full color on 70# high gloss paper. The map itself will be produced digi-tally, allowing both the legibility and accuracy to meet the highest standards. 10,000 maps will be printed for free distribution.

Representatives from Spring Hill Press are contacting members with delivery of the maps to the Chamber office by mid-January. Advertising opportunities will be made available to Wickenburg Chamber member busi-nesses only. Spring Hill Press will produce all artwork for the ads at no cost to the client and will present proof copies prior to publication to ensure accu-racy. Spring Hill Press offers Online Maps that display your advertising until the next edition, and will also provide the Chamber with a link that will take web visitors to the online map. Users can select a member business from the “List of Advertisers” and the map will pan to the selected location. jingle bells! It’s time to start registering for the 19th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights Parade. This year the parade is on Friday, December 12 located in our historic downtown. All entries are required to creatively light up their float, car, horse, group, etc. The application is available at www.wickenburgchamber.com click on annual events to download information and entry form, or stop in the chamber office. We look forward to another amazing holiday tradition sure to delight kids of all ages. The parade each year is co-sponsored by The Chamber, APS, and the Town of Wickenburg.

20th Annual Fly-In & Classic Car ShowVisit Wickenburg on Saturday October 11, 2014 for the 20th annual Fly-In

& Classic Car Show sponsored by the Wickenburg Chamber, and Town of Wickenburg Airport Advisory Commission.

The event is on October 11th from 7:30am -12:00 p.m. at the Wickenburg Municipal Airport-Wellik Field.

During the day you’ll have an opportunity to view a variety of aircraft

flying into the event, 75 classic cars on display, and learn more about the services available at the airport. The Chaparral Pancake breakfast will be served from 7-10:00 a.m., followed by Lions Club “Lunch Stop” 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon. Information and other vendors booths on site.

Discover Aviation Month – “Out Wickenburg Way!”

26th Annual Cowboy Christmas Poetry GatheringWe invite you to attend our special heritage event in December. Featured

cowboy poets & entertainers include: Mary Kaye, Mike Beck, Amy Hale Auker, Ross Knox, and Chris Isaacs. The Cowboy Reception is on Friday, December 5th and includes beer/wine and appetizers at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, located at 21 N. Frontier St. Several of our featured cowboy poets & entertainers will be performing to give you a small taste of what will be featured at the Saturday Night show. Limited tickets are available for the reception @$10 per person advance/ $20 at the door; 6-7:30 p.m. – Doors open 15 min earlier.

Most of the action will take place on Saturday starting with a cowboy Dutch-oven biscuits n’ gravy and cowboy coffee from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. - $5 dona-tion in the north side parking area of the Wickenburg Community Center, 160 N. Valentine Street in the historic district of downtown Wickenburg. A line-up of invited cowboy poets will take place inside the community center from 9-12 Noon and 1:30 -3:30 p.m. Admission is free for the day sessions.

The featured cowboy poet’s performance is scheduled on Saturday, night at 7:00 p.m. at the Wickenburg Community Center, 160 N. Valentine Street. Admission: $15 advance tickets - $25 at the door. Event Calendar:

Tourism!Over the past few weeks, the Arizona Office of Tourism has collected desti-

nation videos to be displayed for visitors to view at their Painted Cliffs Welcome Center in Lupton, Arizona. Our Destination Wickenburg Video which was pro-duced last year is included. The videos will be running as visitors are perusing the center learning about what adventures await them throughout the Grand Canyon State. Annually, Painted Cliffs welcomes more than 90,000 domestic and international visitors to Arizona. Great exposure!

Transportation CommitteeAndy Roth, Resident District Engineer of ADOT joined the group last

month to update us on the progress of highway projects around our area, including the roundabout for Wickenburg Ranch, and district jobs upcoming for Highway 93. The transportation committee is planning with the Town of Wickenburg to host a reception for ADOT Board Members in October as part of their annual board meeting date.

Craig Heath of Arizona Game and Fish Department, Terry Herndon and the Mule Deer Foundation would like to invite you to join them at the 9th annual unit 42 Junior Deer Hunters Camp. Camp set up begins on Thursday the 20th of November. They will have maps and information in camp to help you with your hunt. If you are lucky enough to get a deer, bring it by the camp and they can age it for you and take a photo. The camp will have community shade, seating and a fire to do some cooking if you wish. Free snacks during the camp as well as some meals. On Saturday night Nov. 22nd they will be host a free dinner and giving away a prizes for the kids who attend. sor its Annual golf tournament on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Wickenburg Country Club, 1420 Country Club Drive.

The 15th ANNUAL WICKENBURG CHAMBER GOLF CLASSIC is a four person scramble with shot-gun start at 12 noon. Registration fee is $65 per player, $260 foursome, and includes green fees, cart, prizes and banquet at Ringo’s.

We are pleased to announce that JONES FORD, CHRYSLER DODGE, JEEP will sponsor the tournament “Hole in One” Contest. The lucky winner will take home a new automobile as the prize for making a hole in one. Other sponsors include: Ringo’s, Wickenburg Country Club, Awards by C&L, Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc. and Arizona Public Service.

Tee Box sponsorships are available at $75 for the tournament, with business name signs placed around the course.
