Businesses Should KnowWe have some updates on legislation that affects many businesses: Overtime Rules DELAYED In fall 2015, the US Department of Labor issued overtime rules that sub-stantially changed the system for businesses. The minimum earnings for employees to be exempt from overtime were raised to $24.25 per hour; $970 per week, or $50,440 annually. These numbers are indexed to increase annually. The rules were expected to be implemented in January 2016. The Department of Labor received 272,000 responses to their rules…so imple-mentation has been delayed while they work through them. It is expected that the changes will still be made, although the exact rules may be modified. More information on this significant change can also be found on our Tools for Business Success website, www.wickenburgchamber.com

Our ad placement in AOT’s Arizona Canadian Fall Insert Campaign brought over 700 Reader Service Leads over the past 30 days. Chamber volunteer informational specialists will prepare postcards designed with website and digital download information for inquiries to access. Great results since implementation last fall.

Wickenburg High School has joined the nationwide group “Support My Club” as a new way to make contributions to student clubs and athletic programs. Clubs post their specific needs and donors “shop” for items that speak to them. Items like uniform pieces, sports equipment and art supplies. Items are added to the online cart, donors make a 100% tax-deductible pur-chase and Support My Club delivers the item directly to the club! Products can range from $2 to thousands and items represented from the 4 A’s: Academics, Athletics, Arts and Activities. Within the program students give thanks by donating service hours. For every $100 of value received, the club completes one hour of community service, allowing the students to become the giver and the cycle of philanthropy to continue. Check it out and see what’s already on the wish list at http://www.supportmyclub.org/collec-tions/wickenburg-high . There is something for everyone!

2016 BEST OF THE WEST AWARD (photo)True West Magazine recent-ly presented a certificate to The Chamber recognizing Wickenburg for “Best Place to Live Like and Old West Cowboy”, and for keeping the spirit and heritage of the West alive.

Special Recognition

W/A RodeosBuster and Barbara Webb established W/A Rodeos in 1966, providing stock for rodeo committees all over the Southwest. The Webb family traveled from Bloomfield, New Mexico their homestead giving assurance to their clients for quality service and product.

Numerous Stock Awards from National Senior Pro Rodeo Association have been acknowledged throughout the years. Including: Bareback Horse of the year – 1996 – Teec Nos Pos; 1997 – Crude Dude, and 1998 –Grey Smoke; Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year – Skoal’s Goblin – 1997; and Bucking Bull of the Year, Titanic in 2000.

In 1980’s W/A Rodeo’s met with NSPRA Sanction Chair, Dave Eastlake to broaden the association rodeo footprint in Arizona and Nevada. Buster and Barbara Webb met with committee’s to promote NSPRA coming to their established rodeos or sponsoring new. Wickenburg and Buckeye were two of the towns to establish early ties with the association since W/A Rodeo’s were already the stock contractor for existing annual events. Many other towns followed. For five decades, Buster and Barbara were stock contractors for high school, college, regional rodeos, PRCA and NSPRA events. With Barbara’s passing in 2004, Buster and his crew continue the legacy today.

On behalf of the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Staff and our NSPRA Gold Rush Days Rodeo Committee, congratulate Buster Webb, our rodeo stock contractor on his NSPRA Hall of Fame Induction. It is so well deserved. The working and personal relationship with Buster’s W/A Rodeos makes it a success each year. “Tip of the Stetson” to our Pard!

Meet Buster this month at Gold Rush Days during the rodeo on Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. daily.

Our dear friend, bluegrass festi-val chairman for 19 years, and all-around good guy Mike Wallace passed away last Thursday. Our deepest sympathies to Carol, sons Rob and Mike and their families. May you feel the love surrounding you from our com-munity. Information regarding a Memorial Service on Feb. 18th will be forthcoming.

Sincere Condolences

Another loss last week included Jeanne Bansner our long-time volunteer, wife of Jim, who manned the Drover Caboose for over 5 years each Friday & Saturday during the tourist season. Jeanne loved greeting tourists, whether it was in the caboose, or at her volunteer posi-tion with the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. She will for-ever be in our hearts!
