7.2 Provide the Action Taken Report (ATR) based on the plan of action decided upon at
the beginning of the year *As per annexure 3 7.3 Give two Best Practices of the institution
International Peer Education Programme:
Goal:
Support to international students through peer educator mentorship and academic enhancement of the international students. Context:
Pune city is well known in the world as one of the best educational capitals in India. There were 36 international students from 18 different countries who were studying in Garware College of commerce. We found that these students are not able to cope with higher level academics. Practice:
International students were practically not able to adjust themselves in new city, understand the lifestyle and set the routine. They couldn’t focus on their regular studies. There were barriers in communication with peers too. Ultimately, all this reflexes on their academic progress and also level of achievement motivation. Counseling centre decided to take initiative and help international students. College Counselor called a meeting of domestic students and discussed this problem with them. “Peer educator” was the concept. The peer educator was expected to help his/her international class mate in academics as well as day-to-day studies. Classmate should take lead in building friendship with international students and should try to connect with them, understand their problems and establish a good rapport with them. Domestic students organized an informal group discussion with the international students. International students were feeling so much relaxed after this meeting. A good rapport developed by counselor and domestic students with our international students.

International students share a lot of things about their countries, history, geographical conditions, socio-cultural and general philosophical background of the country. They also share the information regarding economic and educational policies, banking systems, laws of their native countries. Step 2:
Counseling centre organized a study visit to a village adapted by NSS department of our college. International students visited the NSS camp and also took the practical experience of Indian rural life. All the international students enjoyed this visit along with traditional Indian food and hospitality. Step 3:
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, counseling centre organized kite festival for international students on the terrace of our college building. All the international students enjoyed kite flying with their Indian friends. 51 kites were flying in the sky, on this occasion. Counseling centre celebrated 51st anniversary of Garware College of commerce and golden jubilee of our college with flying 51 kites in the sky. Evidence of success:
Counseling centre helped and motivated the international students with peer groups. Their batch mates helped them a lot. Because of this help and group counseling sessions of study skills techniques, the international students could concentrate on their studies and able to scucceed in the annual exams.
