The Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission was established in 1932 by Federal Parliament to regulate all broadcasting in Canada. Commissions, studies, hearings and

legislation on how best to regulate broadcasting and telecommunications (1)

In 1968 The Canadian Radio and Television Commission Replaced the Board of Broadcast Governors. (3)

The Radiotelegraph Act was passed in 1905 making it the first Canadian legislation about wireless telegraph

Parliament set up a committee for broadcasting in 1932 and passes the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Act (CRBC)

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation was created in 1936 to replaces the CRBC and takes over the Commission's staff and facilities (8 public stations and 14 private stations)

The same year the Department of Transportation was created to handle the responsibilities of telecommunication.

In 1937, through the Department of Transportation a conference was organized, and attending the party was the government of a number of countries in the Americas. They discussed distribution of frequencies. Canada got six unoccupied frequencies plus limited or shared frequencies. In result, Canada gets more powerful transmitters and expand networks. With this new agreement, 76% of the population can hear the radio up from 49% (1)

MILESTONES

Announcers and technicians joined the Canadian Armed Forces in England in 1939 to set up Radio Canada's overseas service to help with war.

1942 was the birth of telecommunication advertisement. The Canadian Association of Broadcasters calls on advertising associations to settle pricing for air time.(1)

Canadian television was launched in 1952 (CBC) which opened in London, Ontario.

1958 was the launch of CBC’s Northern service (radio). The Board of Broadcast Governors (BBG), takes over CBC’s regulatory duties. The BBG regulates Canadian broadcasting, including the CBC and private broadcasters. Their goal was to regulate Canadian programming.

Canada announces its policy on coloured television in 1965. It wasn’t until 1966 for coloured television to be launched.(1)

The CRTC Authorized to ensure that both broadcasting and telecommunication systems serve the Canadian public

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

The CRTC compliments both the public, broadcasting and telecommunication corporation

Without the CRTC, corporations would charge us to their likings. Plus the CRTC keeps the nature of the Canadian culture

The downside is, sometimes they appose the opinion of the public. At the end of the day, they should take for account our opinion because everything they show is for the public’s interest/entertainment.
