History of the Victorian Style Most commonly used during last decades of Victorian era (1830-1910), Queen Victoria reigned over the United Kingdom during this era. It heavily inspired structures in New England (Connecticut, Maine, etc.) and the United Kingdom.

Characteristics of the Victorian Style❖ Typically 2-3 stories high❖ Tall and asymmetrical❖ Common materials:

stone, brick, slate

❖ various textures are used, ranging from rough to smooth

❖ Common features:

turrets, colored bricks, decorative trim

Curved lines in the decorative trims and mansard roofs create a sense of freedom and an appearance of softness. Various colors and materials used makes victorian houses flashy and unique. Consistent use of curved lines ornamentation create a sense of unity.
