For me, the Burger Bar had always been my go to comfort place when I just really need a cheap, delicious and filling meal. For others, it’s known as that divey burger place that has the retro-looking menu, the Burger Bar was in need of an update.

The Burger Bar now sports a sportier design, better reflecting the personality of the manager Jack. The crisp pops of colour and simplicity of the general design offset the vintage black and white photographs, keeping the classic vintage look but with a more modern twist.

Situated on the corner of Maple and 12th street, Filament is a mixed use commercial, industrial and residential area. The goal was to increase density and create spatial conditions conducive to a positive live-work environment. The bottom floor is a pop-up commercial hub supported by artists’ residences in the top floors. Connecting the two is food. The overhead bridge not only connects the two separate parts of the complex together, framing the project, but also links the the kitchen from the

more industrial building in the complex to the bar.The buildings are designed to maximize

the conflicting goals and interests of privacy and sunlight. The building maximizes southern exposure while using the louvers to reduce western glare and privacy issues from the building next door.In this group project, I was responsible

for the residential portions (see right) as well as the exterior facade and renders (above, prev. page).

CARDS AGAINST HUMANITYbranding & graphic designAdobe Illustrator

How would you redesign a massively popular card based word association game? The aim is to offer responses that delight, repulse, or be downright hilariously clever. The backing of the card deck is identical

when rotated 180 degrees. This ambigramic

design is a clever and fun take on playing card backs. The design retains the monochromatic

colour scheme of the original design and differentiates the prompt and answer cards from each other with a “?” and a “!” respectively.

ENDSHEDGEHOG STUDIOLOinterior designAdobe Illustrator • Adobe Photoshop • AutoCAD • KeyShot • Rhinoceros

A man lives in the West End of Downtown Vancouver with his cat in a small 700sqft apartment. He needs a distinct space to do workThe inspiration for the Hedgehog

Studiolo is the sensation of needing both privacy, but also trying to maintain viewing and visibility. The interior of the studiolo is intensely private and is the incubation chamber for wisps of thought. Such a fragile space is to be protected. Like a hedgehog, the space created by the studiolo curls upon itself and offers a prickly exterior to the outside, but contains within itself softness and light. The mediating boundary between the

interior and exterior of the studiolo is is naturally in flux. The walls are constructed from a double layer of acrylic that is lasercut and then pierced with bamboo skewers. The bamboo skewers are free to be pushed, so like the familiar childhood toy Pin-Art, the wall can hold objects within itself. The exterior of the wall is left with a palimpsest of all the objects that have been pushed into the flexible wall skin.

Sliding screens extended in both directions, fully blocking off access to both the living room and the studiolo.

Sliding screens block off the living room, but still allowing access into the studiolo. The studiolo can then expand into the living room space if required.

Bernoulli’s Bagels is a local handcraft artisan bagel shop situated on the UBC campus. The cheerful buttery yellow motif and the hand-drawn logo are legacies of years of tradition. In working with the manager of Bernoulli’s, we tried to create a poster that is reflective of the fun, textural quality of the Bernoulli’s bagels themselves with a new modern look. This motif and direction is followed through in the food photography. The photos emphasize the variety and texture and quality craftsmanship of the bagels.

DeClash is a small, start-up debate tabulation software company. Tabulation software is supposed to incorporate scores and properly rank debaters’ results during a tournament. The current software available is unwieldy, lacks fail-safes and presents significant challenges to the logistics of smoothly running a tournament. The client who is creating the new software stated that the logo be fresh and user-friendly.The first iteration of the design is

taken from the clean forms of line drawn logos. The D and C are interlinked to form an optical illusion that shows simulatneously two people communicating with each other or one person speaking their mind. The previous proposal was not the

aesthetic that the client had in mind, so the second mock-up relies more heavily on the use of negative space. The D and C letterforms provide the boundaries for two people engagin in discussion, but the logo can also be read as two speech bubbles.Ultimately, the final logo that wae

chose was one that used the typeface from the second logo, but with a subtle variation to be more friendly looking. Finally, my role was to create both a monochrome and a white on black version of the design.
