PRINCIPAL’S REPORT In the past couple of years, schools across New South Wales have experienced a major change of financial systems. Last week our school underwent a regular audit of finance, child protection and work, health and safety. Our office staff are to be congratulated on the positive feedback received from the auditor that validates the wonderful work they do every day. Information provided by the auditor has been very helpful in developing our knowledge and further improving our school based systems. Drive and park safely near schools The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools. In the past couple of weeks, teachers have seen some parents placing the safety of students in jeopardy by calling children across the road or by double-parking to collect students in the vicinity of bus zones. You can help keep children safe by remembering the following:
drop off and pick up children on the school side of the road
never call out to children from across the road – it is very dangerous
always take extra care when driving in 40km school zones
follow all parking signs – these help keep children as safe as possible
park responsibly even if this means you have to walk further to the school gate
never double park – it is illegal and puts children at risk never do a U-turn or three-point turn outside the
school as it puts children at risk of harm model safe and considerate pedestrian and driver
behaviours to your children. Cyber safety The rules of social media organisations, Facebook and Snapchat, state that children under the age of 13 years cannot hold an account. In some instances, children under 13 years will be redirected to more appropriate and safer options. Sites such as Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram allow for cyber-bullying to occur within the home of the children, often without the carers being aware as social media can be accessed from mobile phones and tablets (iPads) when the children are supposed to be sleeping. Cyber-bullying includes name-calling, making threats and posting photos without permission. Are you aware of what your child is writing or photos that they are sharing on social media?

Bottle Top Count A BIG Thank You to all those who
are collecting bottle tops. 713 246
Parents and carers are role models for our young people and therefore need to consider the manner in which they utilise social media. If you allow children to be a ‘friend’ on a social media site, they or their friends will be able to follow the threads of your writing or the writing of others. Sometimes there are things written by adults on social media that would not usually be uttered in front of children. It is difficult when some of these writings are disrespectful of others. Please be careful for the sake of all of our children.
Have a fantastic week.

3/4S CLASS NEWS This term is really moving very quickly! We have had a busy start to the term and it continues to get busier. Last week we performed at Eisteddfod and won our division, which was well deserved. Some students in 3/4S are excited to present their Multicultural speech to the class at the end of the week and we already have students keen to participate in the school spelling bee coming up soon.
‘Spiderwick’ will be our focus text for the term and we are already enjoying the creative descriptions and suspense so far! Drama has also been a highlight for us as we have been eagerly rehearsing our scripts for short plays.
Stage 2 sport has been a blast as we are learning the skills for field events, such as, long jump, discuss and shot-put. Mr Stone has been taking us through the steps of how to perform in high jump and we have loved learning from him. Wishing all an enjoyable week!

5/6C CLASS NEWS This term we have been busy researching and surveying students about their physical activity and have found most students aren't meeting the Physical Activity Guidelines. We are now starting to get creative designing and creating commercials to inform other 5-12 year olds of how they can be more active and what the benefits are. The Year 5s showed great persistence through NAPLAN week. We have been writing our own versions of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ from Grandma's perspective after many student's found the Big Bad Wolf's version of events very convincing! A busy but great start to the term.
