Dear Parents, MENTAL HEALTH & WELLBEING All students will have coped with our latest version of remote learning differently, some more successfully than others. With a week and half of remote learning left until the end of term (now only for our year 3-6 students), you may see an increase in behavioural issues with your child/children. It could manifest itself as anxiety, anger or some form of protest because they can’t do ‘normal’ things. Under the circumstances this is normal…even for adults! Please be assured when your children return to class, our staff will continue do an incredible job as usual. They will support each child at their point of need and get them back on track. We are very mindful of getting the balance right between work expectations and maintaining good mental health. We certainly want our children to continue to engage in remote learning and complete all of their tasks, however, it is more important that they return to us in good mental health. Please keep this in mind during the ‘ups & downs’ that many of you are currently experiencing. As always, please contact us if you have any questions or require support. I recently heard an educational expert say ‘ it’s not about the number of hours spent learning, but the quality and enthusiasm towards learning that will maintain future growth’. I think this is a really valid comment and one worth remembering. Students will again be asked to complete a return to school survey at some stage next week, this will also help us gauge individual student needs upon a return to school.

END OF TERM 3 REMOTE LEARNING MEETINGS With the end of Term 3 looming, class teachers will call you to discuss your child’s progress during this latest remote learning period. Class teachers in years 3-6 will contact you next week on either Wednesday 15th or Thursday 16th September. This now not possible for our Foundation to year 2 teachers who return to onsite learning from this Friday 10th September. Our junior teachers will attempt to contact parents over the next couple of days. Meetings will run for around 5-10 minutes, if you require more time to discuss any aspect of your child’s engagement in school, your class teacher will make arrangements to speak at an alternative time. Next Wednesday and Thursday class programs will remain in place but with slight modifications to allow for more independent learning, as teachers will be engaged in numerous (phone) meetings.

2021 NAPLAN STUDENT RESULTS NAPLAN results for our year 3 & 5 students have arrived at school. Student NAPLAN results will be uploaded to Compass next week and will be found under the ‘Report’ tab. If you wish to receive a hardcopy of the report after viewing it online please contact the office. NAPLAN tests are one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process, and do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. Your child’s teacher will have the best insight into your child’s educational progress. Along with other school assessment reports, NAPLAN reports can be used to discuss your child’s strengths and areas for improvement with their teacher. While NAPLAN results can be compared nationally between all students and over time, a student’s experience on the day of the test may affect their performance. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s NAPLAN results, you should discuss these with your child’s teacher. A NAPLAN FAQ sheet will be forwarded to all year 3 & 5 parents.

SUPERVISION (MONDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER - FRIDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER) If you would like to request onsite supervision for any of the following days Monday 13th September - Friday 17th September please complete the Onsite Attendance form and return it to the office or email [email protected] by 12.00noon Friday 10th September. Onsite attendance forms can be picked up from the office or are available from the school website HPS_On-site_attend.pdf (huntly-ps.vic.edu.au) Please adhere to the government guidelines regarding student supervision. If you need your child supported through After School Care please use the above email address to indicate the days of care your child requires.
