  • SYRCLs 16th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival

Welcome to the 16th annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival; thanks for being a part of the groundswell!

Hope. Awe. Inspiration. Wonder. These are just a few of the words Ive been coming back to over the past weeks as I think about the program our hard-working team has curated for this years Wild & Scenic. The films, workshops, art, talks, and celebrations youll experience were designed to get you fired up, expose you to new perspectives, and bring you together over large, shared goals.

Of special note is that 2018 celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Actthe namesake of our festival. Youll notice a theme of water throughout many film sessions, speakers, and workshops. Were proud to celebrate this achievement, call attention to this milestone, and raise awareness for other Wild & Scenic river designation efforts.

This years theme, Groundswell, has become more appropriate each day since we selected it back in May. Our nation is in turmoil. Our public lands are being stolen from us. Many of our leaders are failing to model proper ethical and moral behavior. They seem unwilling to think holistically, ignoring the connections between people, land, and the lands inhabitants. But people are resisting; rising up in larger numbers, speaking the truth, and demanding action. The groundswell is happening. Your being here, participating, is part of a larger movement. And we hope youll take time to engage in an action during the event. Become a Dam Watchdog, sign a petition, attend a workshop, or sign up to get more information on a topic of interest to you. Lets act together to create a just and sustainable world. Thanks for kicking off your year with Wild & Scenic.

    Melinda Booth, Executive Director

Our Vision SYRCLs Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a call to action. At Wild & Scenic, filmgoers are transformed into a congregation of committed activists, dedicated to saving our increasingly threatened planet. We show environmental and adventure films that illustrate the Earths beauty, the challenges facing our planet, and the work communities are doing to protect the environment. Wild & Scenic raises resources and awareness for SYRCLs initiatives to recover Californias wild salmon and to protect and restore the Yuba River. And, SYRCLs Wild & Scenic On Tour inspires environmental action worldwide.
