Questions 3-

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

AS MEDIA EVALUATION

WHAT IS DISTRIBUTION?• The meaning of distribution is the action of sharing something

with a number of recipients.

• Distribution in film is the business of launching and sustaining films within the market.

The roles of a distributor is to:

Marketing the film

Deals with some aspects of financing the film

Persuade cinema operators to play the film

Build interest around the film

Identify the right audience

EXAMPLE OF WELL KNOWN DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES

• 20th century fox film co. Ltd

• Dream works

• Universal pictures

• Pixar animations

• Warner bros pictures

• Paramount

• Columbia

• Walt Disney company Ltd.

WHAT AUDIENCE IS YOUR FILM GOING TO APPEAL TO?

After doing research into what type of audience would want to watch our film we found out that our film was mostly going to appeal to women from 16 to 18 or 35

to 40

This is because most women of that age category use the internet and social media to communicate with others. In this day and age social media has become

one of the highest platforms of meeting new people online, unfortunately there can be a risk to this.

The dangers of online communication could peak someone's interest if they wanted to become more aware they may want to watch our film.

In the ages of 35-40 these women might want to watch our film if they have children of if they themselves wish to be informed before using an online dating

site for example.

MARKETING STRATEGIES, RELEASE STRATEGIES AND EXHIBITION OPTIONS

• Marketing is a very important aspect of selling a film in order to create buzz and excitement before it is released into cinema or onto dvd, one way in which they could advertise is through the radio, the TV

and social media.

• Social media is probably the most important way in which to gain publicity this is because our target audience are in the are between 16 and 19, young adults and late teens spend most of their spare

time on social media browsing the internet for new things at least once a day or more . As there are so many social media platforms, such as twitter, Facebook, Instagram… it is more likely for our film to increase in popularity. This could raise a lot of awareness surrounding the film making more people

want to go out and watch it in the cinema.

• The radio also seems like a very good way to promote our film as if someone famous is talking about it like on the radio many people will be influenced by their opinion, and as the radio is available to

most people it will get their attention.

• TV is also quite a useful tool to promote films this is because in the adverts they could show film trailers or simply say coming soon to cinema or on dvd.

SELF DISTRIBUTION

• Self distribution means promoting the film yourself. The ways in which we could promote our film is by telling friends and family member to spread the

word. This is perhaps the most simple way however there will still not be enough people who know of our film.

• In order to promote our film to the maximum we could also make a post on social media to grab people attention by sending out teasers of our film and

a short description to what it is about.

• We could also post a link for YouTube to start growing a fan base as well as creating a page on face book to see how many people would really want to

see our film.

COMPARISON OF OUR FILM TO FILMS WHICH DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES HAVE RELEASE BEFORE.

• The film we have been comparing ours to is called trust it is of the same genre of a thriller and uses similar themes to our own such as the use of social media to meet new people.

• The distribution company for trust is millennium films,

• Although our film is an independent film, the budget is much smaller, as well as our film is a British film so we may need a low budget British distributor for example bbc movies.
