If you’re going to perform well and particularly if you want to leave a good final impression, this is your chance. So, what should you say and, just as important, what shouldn’t you say. “No, you’ve answered all of my questions well,” is perhaps the worst way to answer. It simply can’t be true. Can you really be telling the interviewer that there is absolutely nothing else that you want to know? Unfortunately, based on feedback I’ve had from my clients, you’re actually giving the impression that either you haven’t prepared any questions, or thought enough, or that your questions have been answered and you can’t think on your feet to come up with another. Either way, it doesn’t instil confidence. There are so many questions that you could ask. Here are just a few that you might want to have ready, just in case: How would you describe the culture here? How will you/I know whether I’m succeeding in the role? What’s the best/ worst thing about working for X? Is there anything else you need to know about me before you make your decision? What differentiates you from your competitors? What are the opportunities for personal/ career development and progression? When high performers leave, where do they go and why do they leave? And for me, the most important of all: What’s the next step in the process and when might I expect to hear from you? at interviews?

That’s a big and important question that ends most

interviews. If you’re going to perform well and particularly if you want to leave a good final impression, this is your chance. So, what should you say and, just as important, what shouldn’t you say.

“No, you’ve answered all of my questions well,” is perhaps the worst way to answer. It simply can’t be true. Can you really be telling the interviewer that there

is absolutely nothing else that you want to know? Unfortunately, based on feedback I’ve had from my clients, you’re actually giving the impression that either you haven’t prepared any questions, or thought enough, or that your questions have been answered and you can’t think on your feet to come up with another. Either way, it doesn’t instil confidence.

There are so many questions that you could ask. Here are just a few that you might want to have ready, just in case:• How would you describe the culture here?

• How will you/I know whether I’m succeeding in the role? • What’s the best/ worst thing about working for X?• Is there anything else you need to know about me before you make your decision?• What differentiates you from your competitors?• What are the opportunities for personal/ career development and progression? • When high performers leave, where do they go and why do they leave?

And for me, the most important of all: What’s the next step in the process and when might I expect

to hear from you? This shows that you’re actually interested in progressing and that you’re thinking positively about the future.

How do I answer the question: “Do you have any questions?”
