Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard MetA total of 24 students were assessed. Of the 24 essaysassessed, 84% were successful in meeting SLO#1. Gradebreakdown: 4 As, 8 Bs, 10 Cs, 2 Ds, 2 Fs. The target was met. Most students were able to place an artwork in historical, geographical and chronological context. Placing the work ingeographical context proved the most challenging forstudents. 16% of students were unable to place the work incontext successfully. (05/15/2015)

Exam/Test/Quiz - Students wereasked to write a one page essayabout one artwork, placing it inchronological, geographical andhistorical context. Students weregiven a choice of seven artworks:four paintings and three sculptures.

Course SLO Assessment MethodDescription Assessment Data & Analysis Actions

SLO #1 Analysis of Form in Space - Astudent will be able to demonstratethe ability to draw observationally, appropriately applying anunderstanding of line, value, volume, proportion, and perspective in aunified composition.

Course SLO Assessment Cycle: 2014-15 (Spring 2015)

Course SLO Status: Active

Input Date: 07/29/2014

Standard and Target for Success: Itis expected that 80% of students willscore 75% or above on this SLO.

Faculty Assessment Leader: VanessaMadridFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Reviewer's Comments:

null.courseAction: To ensure thatstudents meet this standard infuture classes, faculty will developmore in-class activities that usescaffolding and examples ofstrong compositions.(05/19/2016)Action Category: TeachingStrategies

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard Not MetTotal students assessed: 35Composition: 58% Excellent, 28% Good, 14% SatisfactoryProportion and Perspective: 46% Excellent, 28% Good, 20%Satisfactory, 6% PoorValue and Chiaroscuro: 30% Excellent, 38% Good, 23%Satisfactory, 9% PoorProcess and Technique: 45% Excellent, 29% Good, 26%Satisfactory

Data shows that students demonstrated an overallsuccessful ability to compose drawings utilizing designprinciples, and a successful ability to construct relativeforms and spaces with proportion and perspective. Thestudents were weakest in their use of value and chiaroscuroand somewhat weak in their use of process and technique.(05/07/2015)

Presentation/Skill Demonstration -In two 2.5 hour drawing sessionseach student will product a still lifecharcoal drawing on gray paper. Allthe values will be applied usingcharcoal with a scribbling, hatchingor cross-hatching technique. The stilllife will be illuminated with a singlelight source. Each still life drawingwill include a box form, a cone form, and at least one cylinder form. Eachdrawing will include a drawn 5-stepvalue scale going from white to blackwith the value of the paper standingin for one value. The goal is toexecute a well-composed drawingthat establishes the valuerelationships among the objects aswell as their proportional and spatialcharacteristics.

SLO #2 Critiquing a Drawing - Astudent will be able to demonstratethe ability to judge a drawing in termsof its line, value, volume, proportion, perspective and composition.

Course SLO Assessment Cycle: 2014-15 (Spring 2015)

Course SLO Status: Active

Input Date: 07/29/2014

Standard and Target for Success:75% of students will correctlyanswer 6 of the 8 questions on thesurvey.

Faculty Assessment Leader: VanessaMadridFaculty Contributing to Assessment:Vanessa Madrid

null.courseAction: In order toachieve 100% success allinstructors teaching Art 110 needto modify composition lectures toinclude examples of asymmetricaland symmetrical balance andproduce a handout withcomposition terms. (05/13/2016)Action Category: TeachingStrategies

Semester and Year Assessment Conducted: 2014-15(Spring 2015)Standard Met? : Standard Not Met30% of students correctly answered 6 or more questionscorrectly. Students were most successful in answeringquestions about perspective, line, value and volume.Students were least successful in answering questionsabout composition, specifically symmetrical andasymmetrical balance. (05/15/2015)

Survey/Focus Group - This non-graded survey asked students todemonstrate their knowledge of line, value, volume, proportion, perspective and composition.
