Asset Services Capability

A sound approach to Asset Inspection has a major cost benefit for asset owners. In

particular:

• Effective asset inspection and condition assessment has the potential to

significantly influence the overall value of maintenance programs;

• The risks of failing to identify defective assets are substantial and represent a major

exposure to the community and a liability to the asset owner and its management.

• The cost to the asset owner of incorrect condition assessment which knocks out

excessive numbers of poles which still retain a period of serviceable life represents

a waste of budgeted asset replacement funds which can be applied far more

productively.

Page 12: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Asset Services Capability

• Asset (Inspection) Services is a long-term, core business for Electrix.• We work in a range of environments from CBD to remote rural locations.• Our customers rely on us to inspect over 300,000 poles and related assets per annum to

ensure the safety and reliability of their networks.• We provide these services for electricity distribution networks and private asset owners

across Australia.• Experience with a wide range of assets and inspection methodologies (i.e. assist the

review of your Asset Inspection Manual).

• Inclement weather conditions• Wildlife (i.e snakes)• Traversing difficult terrain• Difficult / Irate customers• Communication loss• Working alone (remote locations)• Poles in water • Poles in crops

Challenges of Asset Inspection

Page 13: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Asset Services Capability

• Creation of a positive team culture which emphasises the importance and value of asset inspection to the industry.

• Extensive training and coaching to continuously develop the skills of our team (Electrix registered RTO).

• Promoting the development of nationally recognised Cert II qualifications. • Promoting the adoption of uniform asset inspection processes to remove confusing

and conflicting criteria. • Adoption of new technology for data capture and recording (i.e. Click, Loc8,

ServiceMax). • Continuous improvement through adoption of the most suitable equipment. • Conformance to ISO 9001-2008 accredited systems to maintain a uniform high

quality standard. • A strong focus on human resources issues and a stable industrial relations climate; • Conformance to high standards of safety to minimise risk to inspectors and all

stakeholders (EMR ‘Hot Line’ Reporting).

Asset Services Methodology• Ground line inspection including excavation.• Conductor assessment if required.• Preservative treatment if required.• Termite treatment if required.• Pole Top (face) inspection using High/Low Res “Pole Cam” or UAV technology.• Private Overhead Line Inspection / Re-inspection Management.• Special Inspections (specific assets, low priority re-inspections).• Thermal imaging (optional).• Earth testing (optional).Assessment criteria for private networks are generally based on the local electricity distribution network owner’s standards.

Condition Reporting• Fully detailed inspection report provided (inc condition status for each asset);• Defect reports & maintenance recommendations.• Asset Capture and Data Recording (Click Mobility, Loc8, Service Max). • High Resolution Photographic or Video Imagery records of assets and all defects.

Page 19: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Value Added Services

High Resolution Pole Camera;• Proven on over 400,000 wooden

cross-arm inspections.• On the spot assessment & image

capture (to I-Pad).• High or low resolution image capture.• Single man operation with fully

developed safe work procedures and training modules.

“Pole Top” Inspection

Page 20: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Value Added ServicesNon Destructive Testing (PortaCat);1. Thor - an Acoustic Tester designed for fast and efficient on-site assessment of the

condition of a timber pole and uses state-of-the-art signal processing. A frontline tool for quickly determining if a pole is safe to climb and as a lead in to the PortaSCAN and WoodScan analytical tools for a more thorough assessment.

2. PortaScan - Using a pencil beam of low-energy gamma rays into the timber surface and measuring the variation in energy that is returned which estimates the amount of good timber remaining.

3. RLS Meter - Accurately predict and quantify corrosion loss of steel poles to improve scheduled replacement and minimise unexpected failures.

• Ultrasonic testing – Using a combination of the Positector 6000 Gauge Tester and the Time Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge to determine the thickness of the steel pole and assessed against a “Grade of Rust Detected” table.

Page 21: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Value Added Services

UAV Inspection & Assessment• Proven on hundreds of

cross-arm inspections.• On the spot assessment &

high resolution image capture and thermal imagery.

• Single man operation.• CASA Certified with

qualified UAV operators.• Fully developed CASA

approved operating manual, and safe work procedures.

Page 22: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Lone Worker Man Down Device (Auspace)

Lone & Remote Worker Monitoring Solution;• Connected to the vehicle & operational at all times.• Field employee carries duress pendant when away from the vehicle.

Value Added Services

Page 23: Asset Services Capability Statement Presentation

Click Field Mobility ApplicationClick Scheduling/Dispatch Application

‘Click’ Mobility Solution;• Scheduling/Works Management – flexible allocation of work packages, better

understanding of field productivity, live reporting of work status.• Field Mobility – simplified data entry, access to all business documentation & eliminates

paperwork (timesheets, data sheets).• ‘Red Line’ Access Mapping – identifies how to get to the pole itself (gates, tracks etc).
