Statewide Transition Day – Tuesday 9th December
Next Tuesday sees a significant change for KPS when our Year 6 students move on to their various secondary colleges for their transition day. This day will see them meet their new peers for 2015 and hopefully find out their class groups for their first time as secondary school students. On the same day, we will again be having our 2015 Prep students visit from their various kindergartens. On this day, there will be an information session for our incoming Prep parents held in the Library, hosted by our Prep team leader Mrs Kerrie McPherson and our Principal Mr Nathan Pirouet where lots of information will be provided to all our new Prep students’ parents. Our other year levels of students will also ‘move up’ to their next year level for a bit of practice to see what life is like in their new year level. Please note that this session will NOT be held with their new class teacher for 2015. The ‘new teacher’ introduction will be held on our
students’ last day, Thursday 18th December.
School Council
Last night saw our final School Council for the year. This meeting reviewed many aspects of the year as well as put in place plans for many things set to take place in 2015. After the meeting, the Council adjourned for dinner. As it was Candice Huntly’s last meeting as a member of the KPS School Council before she takes up her new teaching appointment at Aitken Creek PS in 2015, we would like to thank her for her involvement with School Council and in particular recognise her efforts in updating our school website over the year. Thank you to Candice but also to our other parent volunteers on our School Council – Anita Roberts (Pres.), Michelle Villinger (Vice Pres.), Michelle Axford (Sec.), Georgina Kibble, Jess Beachley, Deb Lopez-Freeman (P & F rep.) &
Kam Whyte.

School Chaplain – Matt Stear
As we are quickly approaching the end of the year I would like to take this opportunity to thank our School Chaplain Mr Matt Stear for his dedication to the students and the wider school community. Matt has provided a wide range of students and parents with support and advice throughout the year. He is an excellent role model to the students and is always available to listen to their concerns and ideas. Matt does a fantastic job leading the school’s Bikes ‘R’ Us program and also the Junior School
Council. Thanks Matt!
JSC Dress Up Day
Our JSC held their final dress up day for the year with the theme of Movie or Television characters. There were certainly some strange and wonderful creations on parade yesterday. All monies raised go towards supporting JSC projects including our sponsership of our World Vision child Elisa. Thank you to all our students & staff who dressed up on
Tuesday.
Student Leadership in 2015
Many of our Year 5 students have been busily preparing for being a school leader in 2015. Out of 78 Year 5 students, we had 39 submit applications. The students have had to complete an application form, write a letter indicating why they would make a great KPS leader, seek references from up to 2 people who would support them with their leadership application, make a 30-60 second speech in front of their peers about why they would be a suitable candidate for a leadership position. Next week, the students will undergo a formal interview with a Year 5 teacher, 2 of our School Captains & Vice Captains and Mr. Gray. Because of the quality of the students’ applications and the effort they have gone to, we will be interviewing all 38 students! With there only being 12 positions available at this stage, the selection process will be challenging. While some students will be successful, there will also be many students who will be disappointed in not being one of this group of leaders selected. However as we say to all of our students, ‘it shouldn’t take a badge to make you a leader at KPS’. There are also many other jobs that our Year 6 students have the opportunity to do during the year requiring great leadership. We look forward to all our 2015 Year 6
students making a great contribution to our school!
Spot Mr Gray’s Spelling Mistake
Did you spot the deliberate spelling mistake in my last report? If not, the error was in the word ‘challenge’ which I mis-spelt as ‘chalenge’. This week, we had two great spelling mistake spotters – Jorja Whyte and Sophie McKenzie! Well done girls! Good luck spotting my very easy
mistake in this report.

Year 4 Bike Education & Year 3 Road Safety Programs
Our Year 4 students have continued honing their bike riding skills this week. There have been so many Year 4 students on bikes working in groups developing their skills. The program culminates on Tuesday 16th December when the Year 4 students undertake their challenging end-of-program activity in riding from Leongatha to Koonwarra. They will all then do a range of activities before catching the bus back to KPS. The children have been supported by Ms Hughes, Ms Anderson, ES staff and many, many volunteer parents who have been helping the children develop their
skills.
Semester 2 Reports & Student Led Conferences
Staff are finalising their students’ Semester 2 reports and have nearly completed the process of reviewing each other’s reports and editing them ready for final printing. These will be distributed during the last week of
Term 4.
The week commencing Monday 8th December will see all our students have the opportunity to present their portfolios to their parents at the Student Led Parent Student Teacher Conferences. This is always a great celebration of each child’s year. This semester, the process for booking appointments will again be done on-line. This will save parents and teachers time as they prepare for the student led conferences. Information about the booking process has already been distributed to all families this week but for those families who don’t have access to a computer, bookings can be made by contacting our Office staff who will be able to
book times for you.
Parent & Grandparent Volunteers’ Morning Tea
One way that we can recognise the efforts of the many volunteers who support our school is through our annual Parent & Grandparent Volunteers’ Morning Tea. We ask any of our volunteers who have helped on camps, excursions, as class helpers, reading mums & dads, canteen helpers and all the other ways in which our volunteers have helped out, to join us on Wednesday, December 3rd for this special morning tea at Recess. We look forward to seeing many, many people in
the Library for this special event.
Parents & Friends Special Events
Thank you to our P & F group for holding a barbecue lunch for students and staff yesterday (Wednesday). I’m sure all that had a sausage or 2
enjoyed their lunch!
Don’t forget to look out for our Christmas Raffle Event tickets with the first prize being the wheelbarrow and its contents, second prize is a gingerbread house baked as well as chocolates donated by Bronwyn Brandon while third prize is a gift voucher from Prom Country Cheese. Get your tickets in for this great raffle and don’t forget that all families are asked to contribute one item to the barrow. Can you imagine winning a
brand new wheelbarrow with over 200 items in it?
